As the troops and missionaries of the Spanish Empire trek north, they stumble into the orbit of a new power on the North American continent: the Comanche. An attack on the Mission of San Saba in 1758 terrifies the Spanish colonies, provokes the Battle of the Twin Villages, and ushers in an era of increased Comanche war raids

The comanche was the only nation of natives the spanish declared war on, it lasted 40 years, the spanish lost. The spanish took the assimilation route in the end.
And no, the spanish didn't conquer the natives, there were not enough of them. It was the massive amounts native warriors/allies that did all the fighting/conquering. The spanish took all the credit. Same goes for the anglos up north. This is the biggest myth of native american history, that europeans ran around kicking ass. It was the natives that kicked their own asses, europeans took all the credit. Same could be said about the american revolution. That war was financed by mexico, aztecs and mexican generals, puerto ricans, latinos fought for the colonies which allowed for americans to get their independence from the british. Anglos took all the credit.

I am 1\2 Comanche, and my great-grandmother gave me my Comanche name: Wolf that knows all. Both of my parents were also 1/2 Comanche. Many of these people left the reservations at the turn of the Century, roughly 1900. My father became a master mechanic and later owned a series of garages in Chicago. The Comanche have done well by integrating into American society. My father and his six brothers volunteered for the military on the day after the Pearl Harbor attack. Father was a Sherman driver in the Third Armored Division, and saw much action. He was also keenly aware that the Germans. if he was captured. might decide that he was Jewish, because of the tint of his skin.

Yet we see again, in this video, the myth of few hundred Spanish conquistadors invading and conquering an entire continent. This was not the case. The Spanish, since they arrived to the Aztec and Inca empires lands (and this is something they repeated later on, forged alliances with the tribes who weren't happy with the dominant kingdoms there. Subsequently, after forging huge alliances and dividing the tribes, they managed to conquer the territories. So the idea presented at the beginning of the video of some shiny armored conquistadors conquering and killing an entire continent is simply false.

It's truly ironic that z horse, introduced by z Spanish to Plains Indians, was mastered brilliantly by z Comanche, becoming z very vehicle of their conquest & a brick wall to Spanish expansion north of z Mexican territories. The Comanche were z only Native American tribe that was an Empire at it's height. beaten eventually not as much on z battlefield, but by starvation, with z wholesale slaughter of z buffalo (z first & only animal genocide, carried out by z ever expanding Colonialist.

Greetings from New Mexico! We were taught about these events to an extent in 7th grade. I enrolled in a dual credit course to hopefully learn more about it.
The Native tribes are still here, and I have actually been to one of the reservations in 2018. A very natural place I will say; as if humans had barely made their mark there. Lots of trees in a general larger land otherwise known for their sparsity.

It's crazy to think that all this was occurring at the same time as the French Indian War, and then even the US Revolution, and I would guess no one knew of the other conflict at the time. Just had their own shit to deal with. Nowadays you could drive from a battlefield in one conflict to a battlefield in a completely different one in a matter of probably around 8-12 hours.

1) Your map showing the extent of Comanche raiding didn't go far enough. They went deep into Mexico along side their Kiowa allies.
2) Too bad a 10-minute video isn't enough to indulge into the many aspects of Comanche history. Your style would certainly do many of those aspects justice I feel.
3) Try the Pueblo Revolt of 1680.

I want to point out that the Native People had horses. They always did. The horses did not come from the Europeans.
Even Lewis and Clark met peoples that had horses and had not yet met white Europeans.
The lie that all horses came from Europe is a dialogue created by historians that is not based on truth but long held opinions.

Ayo! I have a video suggestion: The Battle Of Bloodriver. It was a battle between the Zulus and The Boere where the Zulus numbered 30000, but was defeated by the 460 boere. The boere didn't have a single casualty due to their strategic decision to make a fortified stance next to a river

Great video! One historical inaccuracy in the video is that the Comanches and Tonkawa did not have an alliance! They hated each other! So much so that the Tonkawa were known to eat Comanches,
I showed this video to my 7th grade Texas History class, they loved it.

As I learn of more and more atrocities committed by waring factions, I care less and less about who committed those atrocities. So much of history really is about who's left standing at the end of all the bloodshed. I care less about

7: 40 that was why the Mexicans weren't able to secure peace with the Comanche because they could not afford the expensive tributes that the Comanche became accustomed to which were also part of those treaties.

If you are Hispanic with Native American ancestry remember that the Spanish language is the invaders tool to make you fit in. In their European system, their religion to make you feel afraid to the unknown.

The narrator has the gift of the gab and I enjoyed the drama of the story.
It's like listening to someone who actually witnessed the events themselves rather than someone reading from a script.

The U. S was at war with the Comanches for 50 years. Longest war in U. S. history. It took Mr. Colt to even out the playing field, and Comanches are the reason why the Texas rangers came to be.

Just gotta say, I got about a minute in and had to smash the like button. Enjoying the delivery, imagery, and how you use what story telling tools you have available effectively. Nice job sir
