My Great Great Grandfather, Charles Sparks, was one of the few survivors of the Battle of Isandlwana. He was ordered by his commanding officer to ride on horseback to the nearest British outpost, to notify the rest of the army of the severe loss suffered by the British. Still have his medals, notes and other memorabilia.
His son, my Great Grandfather, served in both WWI and WWII as a career soldier. His fields of battle included the Somme (Battle of Delville Wood, German East Africa and then North Africa in WWII.
Interestingly, my Great Great Uncle on my fathers side (George Warwick) was also in the Somme with the South African brigade, albeit in a different unit. He was lucky to come out of that battle with nothing more than wounds, as the Battle of Delville Wood resulted in around 766 men of the 3150 man Brigade being killed, and only 750 or so making it out unwounded. George Warwick actually faked his age in order to join, something which purely speaks to the era.
My family and I still live in South Africa.

Are you telling me. that in an age of big stick philosophy. bigger stick won, then got beaten by bigger stick, then the next big stick won, then its oh so sad when gigantic stick came along and beat former big stick? What's new? What makes this once instance of human brutality worse than all the others? Oh boo hoo the British came out on top, someone had to, right? Guess that's the cost of winning, getting shit on by the salty losers. Lets be honest the British did give them a peaceful way out, disband military, integrate with our society, the Zulu chose war against a stronger power and rock beat scissors. Big deal.

Zulus are a Bantu tribe from central Africa. Not native to South Africa. Implying that the land was their land is like saying any European, i. e Austrian has the right to any land in Europe, such as Italy. Doesn't it sound ridiculous in this context?
Also who has the right to what land? No one shames the persians for trying to occupy greece, the mongols, chinese, japanese, arabs and their invasion and plundering. No it's only the white man who must be shamed for his past. BS. Salute to all the brave British soldiers.

This is sad we telling the story from the side of the British. The side with guns and they were burning African children and Women. This is a invasion, not a war. This is genocide not something those Zulus asked for. Nor have they aggervated or promoted war before this campaign. This is truley a horrible example of European savagery. Them Zulus were merely defending them selves. Guns vs Spears and Outdated guns. Talk about thousands killed for British children to live here and created Aparthied.

What is not included in this presentation is the motivation and context of British colonizing of Africa. It was to overthrow the dominant tribes in Africa who were attacking their fellow africans and supplying slaves for the Atlantic slave trade. If the Zulu and other tribes like them would have stopped selling out their fellow Africans, the British would have not had to spend so much blood and treasure on stopping that aboration. Source: Thomas Sowell, on the Atlantic slave trade.

Are these causes (women, or do these men have to be evil as a kind of un-Christian racism? May we incorporate each wild ray of our appearances in dance before them? Or is that what is bothering anyone? You better have a Nutmeg Party, or you're all getting locked out with dreadlocks.

Forgive me if I embarrass myself by speaking ignorantly but wasn't the horns of the bull tactic said here to be the creation of Shaka in fact created by Alexander about two millennia earlier? Where are my military historians and tacticians at? Edjumacate me.

History has always been a story of attack and conquer. The Zulu tribes lived by the same rules, the leader murdered his own brother to gain power, yet we demonise the British for conquering, it doesn't make sense, how can the one be excusable and the other not?
reply

Boy o boy, England won in the end, happy? Alot of racist trolls in the comments mad that the zulus won a battle. even funnier they compare colonial England savagery to savage acts committed by the Zulus. next time you go to war please tell me about the rules
reply

I never knew that it was more Irish and Scottish in this battle than actual English then again that's basically England's history using the Irish Scots and Welsh as warriors for wars because they ain't warriors themselves
reply

Come tell us how you slew
Them old Arabs two by two
Like Zulus they had spears and bows and arrows
How bravely you faced each one
With your sixteen pounder gun
And you frightened them damn natives to their marrow

reply

Sadly when british annexed the zulu kingdom. That was the of an independent zulu state. Even though south africa has since become an independent repuplic. The old zulu kingdom are just Province in the nation of south africa.
reply

Daaaamn. Never heard of that, brillant video and epic win for the zulu i can't imagine the horror of seeing 20-25 000 armed men singing war chants ready to attack. It give a whole new definition to oh dear we are in trouble

There was a old 1964 film called Zulu. It was based on the British outpost that was under siege of the Zulu tribe. Michael Cane played a Lieutenant in it. Good movie though introduced me to Zulu culture.

Kinda sounds like the tone is predictably antiWhite, and particularly anti British.
Reminds me of the liberal so called news networks whose real purpose isn't to report events but to spew propaganda.

reply

Ahaha British with guns and Zulu with spears fair fight no wonder they won but i give respect to brave Zulu warriors for not letting them to be colonized so easily by British Zulu agents (traitors)
reply

One day some nation will attack United Kingdom, kill your men ra pe your wives, steal British resources, butch er your kids. And when once it's all done. make a museum to show all that
reply

As a Mexican person I can only feel for these fellow brothers, and will always screech, and bellow, and argue, and yell their rebel cry forever.
ZULU! #DeadliestWarrior

reply

The war was not disastrous, the Colonist agendas of the time were disgusting and disastrous. Due to colonisation the world is still suffering. It's worse off in fact.
