No one knows, probably not even the Russian government, exactly how many people perished as a result of the many purges, labor camps, and other punishments that occurred during the life of the Soviet Union, which existed from 1917 - 1991. Reliable estimates have put the number over ten million, and perhaps as high as twenty million or more. Most, but certainly not all of those deaths occurred during the reign of Josef Stalin, a genius in the exercise of raw power, but otherwise, a paranoid megalomaniac with few equals in history. In today's video, we are going to tell you about some of the other terrible events that occurred during the life of the Soviet Union, or USSR. In the mid-1980s, Mikhail Gorbachev, a communist reformer, became Premier of the Soviet Union. When he came to power, he understood two things almost immediately: that the Soviet economy needed to be restructured and people allowed more economic freedom, and that many people were dissatisfied with life in the USSR, but did not dare speak of it for fear of government repression. Knowing that this fear and dissatisfaction was liable, sooner rather than later, to spill over into public discontent, protest, and perhaps more, Gorbachev instituted the policy of glasnost, or openness, which allowed people more freedom to speak their minds. This also held true, to a certain extent, for members of the government and its many organs. The immediate spur to glasnost was the awful events that took place at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine then a part of the USSR. Attempting to keep the radiation leak secret from their own people and the world, the Soviets finally had to admit they had a very large problem at Chernobyl, and this was partly caused by people's fear to speak up about problems there and in the aftermath of the nuclear disaster. From Soviet diplomats being kept hostage to Stalin's psychiatric hospitals, to the Chernobyl mess up! We've it all covered in our video! I was an orderly on a psychiatric ward of a hospital in the states in 1975-76. 99% of the patients were being treated for severe depression. Some patients were so depressed, they lost touch with reality. For example, one gentleman was convinced we were on a train and there were people on the train who were there specifically to kill him. Another guy believed he was sent there to impregnate the 2nd in charge nurse. The majority of the patients struggling with depression were treated with medication and a series of 13 electroshock treatments. I had studied psychology both in high school and college, including a visit to the state mental health hospital, and was taught the electroshock therapy had not been used since the 1950s. Where I worked, it was never administered as discipline, only to treat depression. Every patient that was admitted for severe depression and had consented to use of EST went from being in a near comatose state to being a normal person after the 13 treatments were completed. I dont know how it worked, but it did. Unfortunately, it wasnt a permanent cure. During my 2 years employed on the unit, there were several repeat patients who looked as bad when they returned as they did the first time they were admitted. We had to psychiatrist on the ward, and one even had his mother committed and used EST to treat her.
Though I dont know how it worked, and it wasnt a permanent fix, it was never administered as punishment. I saw One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest after I had worked in the psych ward, and was disappointed how they continued to perpetuate the use of EST as punishment. Disclaimer; yes, it works, but I would never consent to it being used on me or a family member. One last comment, over the subsequent 4 or 5 years after I quit working there, I would read in the paper about a former patient committing suicide, and each one had been treated with EST.

Given the plethora of evidence of the atrocities committed by the soviets (you forgot to mention The Holodomor, I find it abhorrent that the ideologies that created this most evil of regimes are still promoted, especially in our higher education systems.
If history is to teach us anything, communism does not work and should be held in as equal disdain as fascism.

The demoncrats using their woke indoctrination training are acting just like the old school soviets. If nothing changes, soon they will be rounding up conservatives here for the same sorta enforced slavery or even extermination. They are giddy with the thought of power and control and punishment of anyone who does not accept their new social movement.

I read about the Soviet politicization of the psychiatric field in the the book Dezinformatzya in college. When you start hearing ultra right radio hosts calling the opposite political ideology a mental disorder this must have been what the ground work for totalitarianism sounded like decades ago.

That thing about the muslims shows, as I read in Don Camilo, by Giovanni Guareschi, that in some people the ideas are not bad. They are wrongly placed and with a few blows they fall in place.
Besides, some people don't understand any other language.

29 million. Communism is all of it. Mao killed 100 million. Communists now call themselves liberals. Disguise it as socialism.
A socialist is somebody who read lenin and marx. An anti-socialist is somebody who understands lenin and marx.

it will be very interesting if you tell what happened to the indigenous population of America, so-called the red Indians, and how they live in reservations like animals with complete amnesia for their own language and culture

0: 22, how about 200 million at the very least? Stalyn may have killed more than 100 but officially he killed 30+, but kills that were off the books or by starvation are hundred(s). China killed 70+ officially.

What is truly amazing, is that despite all this, there are some people that want to try it again, in the idiotic belief that all you have to do is get the right people in charge and this time it will work.

Gorbachev was just a American lap dog that did exactly what the yanks wanted and dismantled the Soviet union, but the Americans did not dismantle the NATO alliance.
