Why was India Partitioned? Documentary
video description
It's kind of ironic because the word Hindu comes from Sindhu (or Indus as the Greeks called it, the great river that flows right through the middle of Pakistan and anyone who lived east of that river was called a Hindu. I believe that till the partition even the Muslims in all of undivided India used to refer to themselves as Hindustani (or those from the land of Hindus.
It's all very messed up and only seems to be getting worse with time. All of this because South Asians of all stripes have great trouble separating religion and state.

Ali Jinnah loved to be P. M of India. But his relative Nehruji wants to be the first P. M of India. But Hindus do not want to bring back Muslim rule in India. So, Ali Jinnah decided to go for a Muslim only state. But he has not accepted all Muslims from India when he chased and killed Hindus, Sikhs from Pakistan. Nehruji also instead of chasing all Muslims to Pakistan turned a blind eye to the plight of Hindus, Sikhs from Pakistan. Both leaders were power hungry and divided India and Ali Jinnah sow the seeds of hatred to Muslims. This is why unified and peacefully living Hindus & Muslims were made to hate each other. Politics divided them.

What a lot of biased people forget or do not know is that the Indian Nationlist leaders who were of high caste wanted the British out at any cost so they could grab power. Britain tried to get the Hindu and the Muslims to agree to a peaceful settlement but they were not prepared to share power. The British did not want partition but realised it was all they could do, they did not want to spend manpower or money they did not have enforcing a peace nobody wanted. So to blame the million people killed on the British is ridiculous.

One thing you didn't mention was the whole reason India was partitioned was because of British religious manipulation for over 400 years, which was successful due to India's diversity of Hindu's, Sikhs, and Muslims along with Christain reformation, building Christian schools to manipulate and brainwash children with conflicting religious messages. Before the British, India was a mostly peaceful country were people of all religions lived in peace It was all by the British.

I mean, the muslims that wanted to form Pakistan weren't wrong. Muslims in India today are definitely NOT held in the same regard or given the same opportunities as Hindus. To give my own countrymen a frame of reference, think halfway between the discrimination blacks faced under Jim crow laws and what's seen today.
It's even worse for Sikhs in India. Better than it used to be though. There's a reason the British empire was welcomed with open arms by the Sikhs.

The fact that 167 world Capitals have a place or a statue of Gandhi and Jinnah is seen as a divisive figure(to be mild) by 1. 4 billion people is enough to get an idea of the fundamentals of the countries. Having said that, I can assure you 93k people won't as generously if our bellicose neighbours try pulling out a similar stunt in future

The name Pakistan came from the word Pak which means pure / clean in Urdu. India is a western name where as the local name is Hindustan ie land of the Hindus.
Looking at the current situation in BJP run India and anti Muslims sentimist and violence there, Muslims were right to demand a separate country and thank God we got it.

What most commentators don't mention is that India didn't exist as a country before the Moguls and then British conquered it. It was a collection of nations, like Europe is now. post British Empire India is the first time it has been one unified country in charge of its own affairs.

India was not divided because Muslims wanted a separate country, it was divided because 'some' muslims (Muslim league) wanted a separate country. Currently India has more Muslim Population than Pakistan. Truely British reserved their worst for the last.

But who planted the idea of partition? Divide and Conquer has always been Britain's policy! After the revolt they were worried if another stronger, unified uprising could have occurred. and eventually led to the partition when they had to leave!

Fun fact: If India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh had not been partitioned, then the resulting state would be by far the most populous country in the world, with more people than China and the United States put together.

At what point will everyone around the world explicitly recognize that Britain was/is an extremely evil power? Seems we are all too enchanted by the cute grandma on the throne and their other cultural exports.

I thought I knew why; now, I know more.
Next question: what happened to the states of Kashmir and Hyderabad who wished to be independent? Apparently, this resolution was never applied.

The man who partitioned it was blown up off the Irish coast in the 70s, a man who cared for nothing or no one but himself and his wealth, also was a pedophile. Karma is a mad thing

2: 54 Even though the British knew the violence was coming upon partition and promised they'd protect others they knew they couldn't do anything about it.
