Since its birth Italy was a kingdom until very suddenly after World War 2 it wasn't. But why did this happen and what led the Italians to abolish their monarchy?

I think that the starting point of the video is simply wrong. The House of Savoy has always been argued for many reasons.
1. Before their involvement in the Italian war of Indipendence in 1848, they were considered French conquerors.
1. The kings of Savoy led terribly during the Indipendence wars and lost most of the battle. The people, in particular the cities that rioted and managed to expel the Austro-Hungarians in the North, felt betrayed by them. The king didn't even lift a finger for the South. Garibaldi conquered it and gave it to the king in order to unify Italy.
2. The kings of Savoy sold what was considered part of great Italy (Nizza and Savoia, their homeland) to France for aid in the indipendence wars.
2. They officially became kings of Italy only in 1861. Thus, their reign lasted less than a century, not enough to take root in a culture of millenia.
3. They invaded the Pope State while most Italians were Catholics and officially were at war with the Pope till 1939.
4. They oppressed the South disregarding all the promises of abolishing the feudal system and redistrubuting lands and imposing fairer taxes.
5. They were continuously involved in moral scandals.
6. They led mostly humiliating wars. Even the ones that were allegedly won, like the one with the Ottoman Empire, costed dearly and didn't gain much.
7. The most important case of the previous point is WWI. In Italy it was felt, and it's still taught as, mutilated victory (you can look it up) because we lost about 2% of the population and the alliance didn't respect the Treaty of London but the king didn't say anything about it, instead was forced to order the army to attack the Free State of Fiume and grant it to Croatia. After all that, all sides were convinced that the Kings were useless. According to the fascists they were too weak, according to the social they were parasite.

If you notice the monarchy flag, daughter of the French Revolution, it is already the symbol of the historical compromise between the republic faction of Mazzini and Garibaldi with that monarchy. The King, in fact, had seen in Mussolini an opportunity for political stability but lost control of the game and de facto the crown passed to Mussolini himself, then trying to remedy it in the middle of WW2 by transforming it into a civil war. Not really a smart move and they didn't make a good impression on us, in addition to running away from the Allies to the South. It was thought to keep it after the war but the image of the rulers was judged institutionally too compromised

Vittorio Emanuele III after arresting Mussolini and signing the armistice, FORGOT TO GVE CLEAR ORDERS to his army (he was officially the chief of it. He said the war goes on, but the soldiers had no other instructions. So the German saw the italian army as an enemy, and search for Cefalonia 1943 for further details. A lot of italian soldiers left the army and became partisans (luckily, many italian city were de-nazified before allied troops arrival.
Vittorio Emanuele III signed the Racial Laws, that's enough to remeber him as an absolut shit.
ps I'm Italian.

I'm Italian and I am totally ok with snapping spaghetti. You know, Italy is a long long country, and not all Italians are illiterate fanatics whose only pride is in our cuisine because they don't know a thing about our wonderful and rich culture, that includes but doesn't stop with gastronomy.
Ps: we abolished monarchy because it sucked.

My nonna told me that people voted against the monarchy because it had become associated with sending people off to pointless wars (Turkiye, Libya, Albania, Abyssinia, Spain, WWI, WWII, and it had utterly failed at the only thing it was really supposed to do (bring stability and moderation to government.

Losing the monarchy was the best thing to happen to most of Europes royal families. Now they are just rich people with none of the responsibilities of state affairs.
Oh, the country is in turmoil? Well, blame the voters then, it is a republic after all.

The history of Rome: we're a monarchy, no wait monarchy bad, actually maybe a monarchy is fine, wait no bad, wait bring it back, oh let's have a different family as monarchs, wait let's be a democracy. We'll definitely never change back to a monarchy.

After the exile of the Italian monarchy, the Savoia family got splitted in two branches, both claiming the right to an ipotethical throne of Italy. I don't know how this began, but I know it ended up with two princes fighting during a wedding

Fun fact: there is still a king of Italy
He can sign that way and is basically allowed to keep his title, although it means nothing
All of the other nobility titles are preserved too, and transmitted from generation to generation still

The true hate for Vittorio Emanuele II from the people was justified because he actually signed the ratial laws of the germans when he could've Just said no and buy some time for the Poor people that would've been slaughtered in camps.

It's usually rather fun to get to see why these god-appointed rulers don't still rule, and what they ended up doing for the remainder of their lives, once ousted from power, assuming they didn't commit suicide, or get Czarred.

Honestly I wondered why they didnt do a thing like the British did where they had a parliament and than had the king as the official leader, I wish they would have done that because I enjoy the kingdom of Italys flag

IIRC, when it was proposed to Umberto II to proclaim a government in Naples and duke it out with the republicans, he is quoted as saying My house (the House of Savoy) united Italy. It will not divide it.

One day in 2018 I met an Argentinian tourist that asked me if Italy was a monarchy ( he had seen the royal tombs in the Pantheon). I realized that in America they have no idea about the country.

Article 2: If you snap spaghetti before you cook it, we are allowed to boil you in its place.
Good thing I've never snapped spaghetti in Italy; I would have been boiled countless times.

Whenever there is someone carrying a soon, sign, that person is usually a communist Or simply Stalin in disguise. In this video, it was Stalin in disguise, but with gray hair.

The Allies won because they secured the financial backing of James Bisonette and Kelly Moneymaker while the Axis only managed to get Woogeley-Boogeley's support.

They actually went even further, and completely banned the royal family from returning to Italy. Not sure if it's still in place, but it was when Umberto died.
reply

I read somewhere that the King could have saved the monarchy by campaigning in the referendum, but he considered political campaigning to be beneath his dignity.
reply

With public opinion leaning against it, the Italian monarchy decided that the polite course of action would be to come down with a sudden case of 'not existing'.
