How did the Ottomans conquer the Balkans and Asia Minor? - History of the Ottoman Empire (1299-1400) The 4 most important factors in the rapid expansion of the Ottoman Empire:
1. The Ottomans employed steppe war tactics that Europeans were not familiar with. And the Ottomans made good use of gunpowder, cannons and hand cannons that the Mongols learned from China and brought to the Middle East. A century later, Europe developed the arquebus and the Ottomans adapted this new technology to their armies and developed this type of weapon further.
2. Because the war with Christians was religiously appreciated by the Turkish people in Anatolia, the Turkish people migrated from other Beyliks in Anatolia and joined the Ottoman army.
3. The Ottomans were in a region far from Mongol oppression. For this reason, Turkish tribes migrated to the Ottoman lands. Thus, the Ottoman Empire could settle this Turkish population in the new lands it conquered.
4. The Ottoman tolerance of the Christian civilian population and did not press for forced conversion, which protected the Ottomans from great Christian revolts even during the Ottoman weakness, such as the struggle for the throne\r\n

This series was fantastic! Thanks so much for shedding some light on a historical topic that does not get a lot of attention in the western world. Just some food for thought -- I would argue that this is not the -first- episode in the series. I am a novice at Ottoman history but this episode would make it seem that the Turks have always lived in this part of the world and Osman was just the first to finally start the expansion. Have you thought about doing an episode for the 100 years before this episode showing how the Byzantines controlled Anatolian, to be conquered by the Seljuk Sultanate/Sultanate of Rum (which is another slice of history I am not clear on and would be awesome if you did a series about) which then led to the Turks eventually fleeing from Central Asia in to Anatolia from the Mongols. Was reading on Wiki about how his father Ertugrul was a Seljuk general and first granted lands around Sogut where Osman would later launch his expansion campaigns from.

A video of substandard quality, The Ottomans were conquering the peninsula for approximately 220 years, of which 130 were dedicated to the conquest of the Medieval State and some 60-80 years to the conquest of the Kingdom of Bosnia and the state of Herzegovina. Furthermore, the Medieval Serbian state was conquered in 1459, not 1389. The Serbs have defeated the Ottoman Turks at Prussa, Nicaea, Nicomedia, Dubravnica (1381, Plocnik, Tripolje, Nish, Kunovica, Krusevac, Leskovac, and Bileca, whereas the Ottomans have defeated them at Kosovo, Maritsa, Novo Brdo, Demotika, Trepanja, Savra, and at Zlatitsa. Their foremost strategy was to take advantage of the decades-spanning fragmentation of the Serbian, Bulgarian and East Roman Empires.

Pl read this history;
-The Ottamans set such a good example as pacific conquerors that they won the confidence of many former Byzantine subjects. For example, when Nicaea fell, Orhan allowed all who wanted to leave the city to depart freely, taking with them their holy relics, but few availed themselves of the chance. No reprisals were taken against those who had resisted, and the city was left to manage its internal affairs under its own municipal government. BOOK: Encyclopaedia of the Ottoman Empire. AUTHOR: Gabor Agoston and Bruce Masters. Edition: 2009 page -109.

Easy with the assistance of Rome, otherwise never would succeed.
Why?
Because Ottoman Empire does not make as Turkish at all but as Roman.
Fist name of Turkey is Roman Sultanate, which clearly explains who has created that state and nationality and that was Rome. All this explains why there is 90% mixed genetics in Tukey, also thr word Turk had been banned and prohibited of nay use during the Ottoman Empire, that name had been forced later by Attaturk.
Turkish are not Turkics.
Turkics have from 60 up to 90% european genetics.

The main reason was that the Ottomans took advantage of the fractured and weakened Bulgarian kingdom which was at this time divided in 5 kingdoms and there was internal fight for power. They also used deception and lies to fuel this even more and managed to manipulate one of the kings to take their side against his brothers. The qonquest of Bulgaria (the gate to Europe) took a whole century. There was a traitor who opened the gates for the Ottomans in the final battle. The whole story is much more rich and complicated.

A lot of people tend to forget the Turks fought as mercs for the Byzantines in the Balkans. Due to this it led to more pay and power. Along with territory this allowed the Ottomans easily to take these territories in the Balkans as the Turks turned against the Byzantines took the cities and hand it over to the Ottomans.
Basically when your Mercs turn against you due to pay.

Albania was not conquered until 1479 when the last castle of Shkodra fall. Venetians and Albanian lost the last stonghold there. Kruja was lost few years earlier, but up to 1468 most of the castles in Albania, Montenwgro and northern Greece were not under the Ottomans

6: 03 -Orhan was able to occupy Karesi principality- That's wrong, Karesi principality joined to Ottomans by own will. After that, Notable persons of Karesi took place in the Ottoman state and they have joined to raids against Byzantinum together.

Bruh. Battle of Kosvo was a draw not an ottoman wictory. Bouth leaders had been killed and bouth armies lost most of their soldiers. It also caused a civil war for ottomans wich weakend them for next 10 years

Nice video although a small correction from my side regarding the conquered areas. The city of Shkodra and the north of Albania was not conquered until 1479, so it fell after Constatinopole.

lets start explaining how ottomans become strong, but dont forget first to blame others for that and to excuse them, cause its impossible that ottmans byself were to strong for europeans

1. What about the Battle at Rovine? 1395
2. After the battle of Kosovo in 1389, wasn t Serbia a vassal of ottomans, under the name of Moravian Serbia?

Many consider this Empire to be a black stain on Europe. Out of all the Empires that set foot in Europe, The Ottomas did by far the most damage to the continent.

Because it was a Caliphate and not primarily an Empire. Great pluralist epistemology based on Truth, Law. spirituality xo
