Also Soviet asked to join in the faction, but germany Refuses mainly, because Adolf couldn-t justificate Any war objetives as Ally, but comparing with breaking the Molotov-Ribentropp it-s similar in high traition terms.
If USSR: join in the Axis, there could happen few Things
First Anti-Comitenr pact were cancelled or ignored, but Soviet union has more value as ally Than Italy and Japan, also there would be a delimitarized zone in Ukranie, when germany while suporting and independence, causing some Problems to the USSR
Another Posibility it-s that retake the Sea Lion Offensive, and Pressuring the soviet union to help that was naturally rival of Democracy.
If U. K was defeated the Over sea and Colonies that they got will be in hands of germany, Giving the resources that they need like Oil, Aluminium, Gold, Steel and Rubber.

We would never know how the war would end if those countries joined the Axis.
Specially with Spain and Portugal.
With the support of Spain and Portugal would be very hard to the Allies to control the Mediterranean.
And with the support of Portugal, the Axis would have a key spot in he middle of Atlantic, the Azores islands, which could help them to control the Atlantic ocean, and the routes of trade and weapons between USA and the Allies in Europe.
The WWII was very traumatizing for all humanity, specially for all europeans.
Marked the Human History, and after that, United Nations, EU and NATO were created, and curiously, after the war USA become the strongest nation in the world.

I didn't know Franco was Italian? Should also mention the other countries that were part of the Axis powers, such as Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia. These contributed to the Axis powers with over three million soldiers, so together they contributed more troops than, for example, Italy, also placing Jews in ghettos and concentration camp was systematic in these countries. Other countries can also be mentioned such as Austria, which was annexed strongly before the war by Germany, but which also contributed to the axes side.

axis included Croatia (which controled Bosnia, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. Slovenia and Czechia were part of Reich, Albanians were very friendly, Finland joined Germans, on top of that large percentage of population in occupied countries like Norway, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Danmark supported Germany, not to forget Austrians who were fully loyal to Reich (97+% of population. some nations in USSR also filled the ranks of SS.

Actually there miss a few nations like Hungary, Bulgary, Romania, Thailand- all members of the axis. Although they did join and thus would not be mentioned as -could have-, they should at least have been mentioned on top of the original 3. Also, Finland could have been mentioned as -could- although it remained actually unaligned, only fighting with the Germans against USSR, but not against the Allies

Turkey didn't -almost- join the Axis, tho, Turks were never close to joining the alliance. President Inonu, for years, tried to keep his country out of the war and succeeded in it. Even if Turks liked Germany enough to join, which they didn't, they still wouldn't because of Italy. Turkey, rightfully, feared a strong Italy in the Mediterranean Sea.

what about Brazil? It was bribed by the U. S to not join the war as it was a great trading partner with Germany and favoured them greatly over the Allies. The only reason they joined the war at all was because the leader was pressured by the people of Brazil to join the allies which he did right before the war ended.

Turkish leadership at the time never had any intention to join the Axis. This is categorically wrong. The non-aggression pact with Germans was signed purely to keep them outside the door. Turkish military had no chance against Germans or Soviets back then. That-s why we had to keep a low profile.

Strange you didn't include USSR, German-Soviet Axis talks lasted into late 1940 Germany even drew up a draft agreement for entry into the axis, also interesting no mention of Finland that actually fought at the same time as the Germans against the Soviets.

Finland was a strong Axis ally also. I-m surprised that France wasn-t mentioned, they were one vote away from joining the Axis after the Brits sunk their fleet of ships after France surrendered to Germany

Franco had a weakened army after the civil war that he needed to keep any rebels down. He also didn't care much about Europe, his goal was to make an autonomous Spain he controlled

If I were Francisco Franco, I would-ve declared war on France when Italy and Germany annexed France just so Spain is in the Axis. (I don-t support the Axis Powers.

If the Axis could of convinced Turkey, in late 1940, to join the axis powers, then the war would of been over in months from the time it entered.

Franco worked with Germany throughout the war. We now know that Spain was one of the 3 main routes that the NAZIs used to escape to South America.

It should be noted countries like Bulgaria, Romania and Yugoslavia (until the invasion) were part of the axis, not just the tripartite pact
