Two Poles and Cable PUZZLE -- Tricky Puzzle -- Interview Question kuls43: Sorry but explanation is faulty. In figure 1: 03, you have shown free bending of rope. If you consider imaginary right upper part as right angle triangle, then as per the Pythagoras theorem (8+X)-2 =8-2 + d-2 for which no real answer is possible if X is positive which will be because bending rope will have slightly more length than the hypotenuse of the imaginary triangle.
Even when you make distance 0, there will be some bending because both poles will have atleast some width. You should have drawn a non real world diagram with no bending of rope, in that case answer would have been zero.

I wonder if the ratio, where. IF the rope height=7, THEN the distance between the poles=0. and. IF the rope height=15, THEN the distance between the poles=16. would allow us to determine how the distance between the poles affects rope height? If so, we can make puzzles with different rope heights or, conversely, different pole distances. Would that work?

The cable can not be Parabola,
Theoretically shape of the cable is - Catenary -.
Catenary is a Latin word came from chain.
All hanging ropes or chains which has uniform mass distribution they have this shape.

Two points;
1. The cable will not have the shape of a parabola, but that of a catenary.
2. Preshtal Walker did the same puzzle. I find him quite annoying, but not as much as you.

Two days ago a boy was 8 years old,
After one year he will be 11 years old?
How is the possible.
This is my question.
Do answer sir ----LY

reply

Took me more than 10 minutes to realize it. This one you had to focus on the specific given values, not so much searching for a general geometric law.

Crazy bro. I am just keep on loving ur puzzles. I tried to solve dis using mathematical formulae. haha. how freaky I am?
