Geometrically yes. But in real life the total amount of energy is lower in going in a straight path( jump down + move 30 on the floor + 11 climb on the side. So, the energy in your path is ( 35Fh + 12Fv, where Fh is horizontal force and Fv is climbing force. But in a straight path it is ( 30Fh + 11Fv. Whereas physical time is comparable. All in all, a better decision for the ant is to follow a straight path.

I cn make more shorter path. itz 31. 622 approx. see ant moves 6 inches to reach front side of the box den itz already 1 inch up and has to travel 1 inch below on dat side. dat means we get a ri8 angle of 10 x 30 n itz hypotenuse wil b 31. 622. so de ant only has to move remaining 6 inch to reach d drop dat is 6+6+31. 622= 32. 622 inches approximately!

The box is on a rocket ship, headed to outer space, during the way there, the rope holding the honey is detached due to turbulence. Once the rocket reaches outer space, the lack of gravity will cause the honey to float around. At some point, the honey will eventually float toward the ant, the ant travels 0 distance. Think outside the earth.

Actually, if you can bend the box ends out, you can also bend them in. And the shortest distance seems to be less than 30. however, doing that with the honey flap would put the honey between two surfaces. fold the honey flap out and the ant flap in. Just don't crush the ant.

4 is the shortest distance. Just rotate the box 90 degree to make the wall where ant stand the floor, and the wall with honey a ceiling. Gravity will make honey fall down on the floor, and ant will have to move only 4 incehs to get it. Easy.

The time it takes to take the shortest route will be far longer than than just up, along the top, and down a bit. Total number of turns = 3. Whereas the other one will take so much more longer it-s pointless

My first answer is 31-, the logis is the honey eventually will drop. The the solution shows, I said NAH, you can fold the box inwards, just leave gaps. Think outside the box. -

When folding the box, you can fold the two ends that have the ant and honey to the top of the box. When you do this the ant only needs to crawl 18 inches across the top.

Consider folding both fat sides (honey & ant) outward onto -ceiling- of box. Total distance = 30- - (1- (honey) - 11- (ant) = 18- total!
