Summary
Texting is double edged. It helps you stay in touch but face to face is more important. Taking out facial cues, breath stuff like that. is important. It's the subtle stuff.
Texting has power dynamics. To avoid, text whenever you want. No mind games with the delays in text, not knowing how to execute that.
It increases impatience. Over thinking and stress.
Social etiquette goes out the window. It breaks down previous social conventions. Like, you could text someone at 2am. Or in a board room meeting. And it could feel appropriate to you, but it really is not.
Using your phone during professional/scholastic affairs s like giving away 20% of your attention. It doesn't send a good message to your cohorts.
Lose the charm and individuality of the other person (ex. Lol instead of a charming, unique laugh or humorous response.
Sore thumbs. Sore necks. Results in irritability and naturally bad for relationships.
Usually bed at 10-11 pm. That changes for most people, because phones make you want to stay up later and later and later. Tired person doesnt make for a productive person who has good relations with others.
By becoming too focused on these things. you can run the risk of being disconnected and be too reliant on your phone.

I agree that there is a sort of attention seeking power when it comes to text. Me and my ex were in a long distance relationship and i would constantly text him whenever i could. It then led to it being too much and he wanted some time and space, we then broke up because he was getting stressed and i was getting frustrated, not a good combination xD but in the end i learned the value space and patience in relationships with friends and ppl. Some people need time to open up, unlike me im just way too open and friendly. I learned that it is best to understand the value of boundaries and space in ppl in order to see their side that they willingly open up towards u

I dated a girl for 6 months. It started out great, but then we started having issues and texting became the tool of hell for me with her. It's been 2 years since I left her, but it still traumatizes me. It always felt like I was in trouble based by her lengthy text messages. When I would go out with my buddies for a guys night, the next morning I would get 10 text messages from her saying I dont love her enough, I dont respect her needs, etc. When I ended with her, it was 2 weeks of her sending me essay long text messages about how she felt and how I'm a horrible person. Because of all that, I get horrible texting anxiety even when texting friends.

You missed one: If you send a text and refuse to send another to the same person until they text you back a reply. Other people have lives, to start with. Your text might also not have warranted a reply. Insisting on this idiotic rule might lose you a lot of friends, since it ends up being YOU who are giving off the ghosting vibes. You may think you're exercising your self-respect, but it really just shows your insecurity, and trust me - desperation is NOT a good look. Someone who cares will catch on pretty quickly to the attempt at manipulation. Someone who doesn't care will just forget all about you.

I do not like texting bc
1)you hv2 wait for the person to respond
2)I think texting is the worst way to communicate
3)Also texting you really do not not know what the other person is really saying;
4)texting the words in a text can be several things like misunder -stood&Some times hurtful so I only text when I really hv2 like my mom says texting should be only short texts&if you got alot to say to the person;
Then call them
I agree with my mom

This should apply to all relationships: family, friends, peers and any colleagues that you have. Texting is so impersonal and it makes you feel more isolated than had you never received a text to begin with. it says you don't even warrant enough attention to have a real conversation. your texter can only spare a few words, send you these sterile diluted digitized conversation crumbs on your smartphone screen. Blah texting is horrible!

For me, I can't simply turn off my phone. I'm an IT tech, and I'm actually on call 24/7. But what i do is set an appointment in my calendar. What that does, is set my phone to do not disturb. So, unless I receive a call from a number I marked as important, or 2 phone calls less then 15 minutes apart from the same number, I don't get notified about them. That way my time and attention is focused entirely on the task at hand.

I really agree with the video people r loosing out on really knowing someone also if u r with others and text it's rude and inconsiderate. people have lost their own social lives by technology when not doing this at an appropriate time. I had a bad feeling when computers came out that it would b harmful. I believe my gut instinct was right just look at the last election and hacking

The only reason why I text so much is because when I talk about serious things my voice goes and my eyes water. Basically my anxiety kicks in so it can be really hard to talk and for people to understand me. But Ive been try to talk more instead of texting or writing things down. And I cant do phone calls. I cant stand phone calls because they make me super anxious and awkward

There is also another issue with texting is the avoidance issue. Gosh, it is tricky to call most of the time because i dont know for sure if the other person can talk at that moment or not. So we text. But i agree with all those points and i do not pick up the phone during time with family, dinner and time with people i care for. Still gosh it is a struggle

Last guy I was with we never argued in person but argued plenty via text. Just met a new guy on tinder and while there was a great instant connection, we texted too much and ruined it before it even got the chance to start. How do I balance the perks of technology without having it negatively impact my relationships? It's so hard to figure out

ok, so I am a homeschooled kid. and I live on a farm about a half hour from the city. since I dont go to school or have the ability to see other people everyday what would you suggest I do? I talk on my phone constantly but its easy for me to disconnect as soon as I am with my friends. so then douse this mean texting is not hurting me?
reply

The stress, anxiety and impatience is REAL. But my friends and their texting habits are like mine. If they answer we talk for at least ten minutes. And most of us get anxious from this. The other problem is when I do text (a person outside of a chat) nobody answers.

One of my friends bf be playing games and texting to his friends and shes there watching him upset or/and don't know what to do. Even if she tried to text him he'll look at it but goes back playing games or texting his friends.

is it possible to (psychologically) fall in love when texting a person?
what if you get bored/ comfortable with each other? will having space or break okay to keep the relationship? (though, we don't text other people often)

I'd love to go for coffee with my girlfriend, or give her neck rubs, or hear her laugh irl. But she's 20 000 kms away, and we haven't seen each other in 5 months, and we have 12h jetlag, so doing all of the above it is, yaaay!

My ex would text me all the damn time I had to lie and pretend I'm busy to get time to myself. We'd talk the night before and then in the morning no wonder I fell out of love. Hope my ex found someone as needy to be complete tho.

Last time I was with my good friend, I had my phone left in my backpack almost the whole time.
It was a great time spent with him, focussing on conversation instead of our phones. We even watched the sunset together

I was thinking about this. I have conversations with people on the other side of the planet but I realized how quick I need the response of the other. It's like an instant gratification. And this leads to overthinking.

Texting can ruin a relationship if you don't call the person your in love with at least once a day. thanks so much for this video, ive needed someone to agree with me so i can send this to my much younger girlfriend!

The LOL part made me remember this time where I was talking with someone who I look up and I made a little joke, expecting lol. But instead he replied with hahaha instead. That made me more happy then lol ever dose.

I once had this guy in this class that I was teaching. I thought he was texting all the time and I got sick of pointing it out after a few days. Turns out that he was looking up porn on his classmate's phone.

I'm 32 years old, and I'm a generation that just cannot pull away from these things. I just say make cell phones illegal and maybe we would be healthier as a society. Something North Korea got right.
