Music is the language of the soul. For thousands of years, humans have been creating songs and symphonies that enthrall, inspire, and hypnotize. our history and our culture closely entwine with musical notes. It should come as no surprise that music has a profound effect on the human mind. Were all felt it before music helps us relax. It gives us goosebumps and it encourages us to put ourselves to the limit. but What is the science behind all of this?
Here are 7 psychological facts about music
-The Mozart effect: is one of the most popular scientific concepts surrounding music. It was developed by Dr. Gordon shaw a few decades ago and the premise is simple, classical music makes you smarter in his research, he claimed that listening to classical music can raise your IQ by up to 9 points. The main basis for the line of thought has to do with spatial reasoning. This type of brain activity is used in the match, chess, engineering, and science
-According to most of the facts, classical music boosts spatial reasoning considerably. Maybe its time to start playing some Mozart while we study.
-Music therapy helps repair brain damage: brain damage is one of the most discussed topics in the world of psychology, some people suffering from brain damage go through tremendous pain and discomfort and their life is seriously affected. But what if music could help? New research shows that music can actually repair brain damage and its been hypothesized that music therapy could be responsible for neurogenesis which is the birth of new brain cells.
-Hearing music in your dreams is incredibly rare. Think about every dream youve ever had. Can you remember hearing music in a single dream if you like the vast majority of the population youve probably never heard so much as a jingle in your dreams? According to a 2018 study, only 6% of all remembered dreams include music. Unsurprisingly, youre much more likely to hear music in your dream if you are a musician or someone who listens to a lot of music but even then the number is still very low. Your entire brain is activated when you listen to music. There arent many activities that make your whole brain light up but listening to music definitely is one of them. When you listen to music there is not a single part of your brain that isnt activated. Parts of the brain that are responsible for emotions, creativity, and even motor functions are working while listening to music. So if you are looking for a full brain workout, simply put on your favorite song
-Music can improve language proficiency: the relationship between language and music is one of the most fascinating things in the world of spychology. To put it simply these two things are very closely linked to one another. a 2012 study pointed out that despite what previous research suggested music and language are not separate functions in the brain. Traditionally, speech functions were thought to exist in the left hemisphere of the brain while music functions existed in the right hemisphere. But today, it is widely accepted that both hemispheres are responsible for music and speech. What this means is that music functions can actually improve speech functions and vice versa. In a sense, both activities are working the same muscle
-Your taste in music says a lot about your personality. Have u ever wondered why you like certain music? Have you ever wondered why your favorite songs might sound absolutely terrible to others? The answer lies in our unique personalities. numerous studies have shown that if you like a certain musical genre you are probably going to have personality traits. For example, a 2004 study found that extroverts who more likely interested in music in the general sense but they were also more likely to enjoy pop music. That is just one example and theres tons of research on this one topic. Think about your favorite song, and what it says about your personality.
-Music therapy helps children with autism: remember what we said about music lighting up entire the brain, this makes music therapy an ideal choice for children with autism. When both hemispheres are activated, children are self-aware while still forming relationships with others. Research has shown that this therapy isnt incredibly beneficial for autistic children. As it encourages them to interact with instruments and communicate with others in a band ultimately creating music collaboratively in efforts.

On at least two occasions, I have woken up singing songs that pertained to what I was dreaming about. The first time, I had recently changed jobs, and had a dream that the new workplace was rapidly flooding. I saw the water and started singing Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, and woke up singing it. Then just two or three years ago, I was dreaming about a television commercial for the old Hill's department store, and woke up singing their jingle (According to legend, little folk know, Hill's is where the toys are. I also remember dreaming that I was at a local flea market, and Eyes of the World was playing over the PA system.

it makes me sad thinking of a life without music. Even when nobody is there for me, music is. It is the ultimate comfort zone, you just have to find what makes you feel alive while listening to it. that could be any music. For me, my favorite band is Humanity's Last Breath. Their music is so heavy it's relaxing to me. my advice, find that one artist who can calm you down no matter what, and use it productively. i listen to this band at work, and i get a lot more done than most people.

It's interesting how music that is loud and agressive can calm certain people even making them happy. For example, if I'm sad or angry I tend to listen to metal and I feel better while that type of chaotic music sounds horrible to most of my friends. While I listen to pop as well It means I'm already happy, pop rarely makes me smile when I'm sad. I wonder if it's a personality thing. I don't consider myself edgy and such, in fact, most people seems to think I'm a nice soft person irl

I'm very confused on what's happening to me I listen to music almost 24/7 waking up getting ready, on the bus, durring classes which I'm not allowed to do but I just do, through lunch on a low volume contributing to conversations but it's always playing, rest of my classes, break 2, classes, walking with friends to the bus stop, on the bus home, chilling out in the afternoon or going for a walk and then listening to it when going to bed then repeating the same thing over again

Am I the only one here that oftentimes, music will make me feel like I am in a certain place? Some music makes me feel like Im on a mountain, snowy areas, beaches, street in a town, garden, or victorian architecture? Im not talking about nostalgia, it is just oftentimes a music makes me feel like in a place Ive never been before, usually the places Ive dreamed of going into.

The Mozart Effect is widely considered to be false by musicians and psychologists alike. So, use this video as a starting point for your own research instead of taking it as face value.

My brain is like a jukebox there is always music playing in my head. Often completely random selections. Tunes that I havent heard for years. Even some that I dont even like much. The other thing is that I play the banjo. So if classical music increases your IQ what hope is there for me?
reply

So, in conclusion. does listening to too much music non-stop damage your brain? Because as they referred. There isn't a single part of your brain that isn't working (while listening to music ofc) So, if we listen too much music. this could make our brains exhausted then ever?
reply

I was in a semi-lucid dream. I went into the garage of my house, turned on a strange machine, and it played an absolute jammer of a song. I was singing it all day, but I was too busy to put it into a program. The moment I tried, the song was gone from my memory. :(

I actually had a dream where I was playing the piano, and I play the piano which is cool. When I was a baby my dad used to play piano music for me, which is really funny cause there isn't 1 day I dont play the piano for atleast 30 min - 4hours.
