What exactly is an ego? The identity that our minds create about ourselves can be described as our ego, which is the translation for I or me in Latin. Being confident in yourselves and your skills are great, but being overconfident causes people to have very large egos. Large egos can easily get in the way of your relationships, both on a personal and a business level. Here are a few signs you're letting your ego control your life without realizing it

I had a depression for 2 years and i have found out one of the main problems. I had 0. nada ego. It was sow low that i has gone into negativity that i thought others are more worth then me so i never complained about things that i thought were wrong. But since i have increased my ego, i stood up to my france teacher that was treating me very bad and was always making me look bad in the class. And after i confronted her infront of our whole class she did what she could do best and screamed at me. Long story short she had to apologize and i think that really increased my ego a little bit to much. But it worked with my school notes and that i dont let myself push around anymore it gave me more self confidence. This overself confidence made me reach thinks i couldnt reach be4 like writing a+ because it made me study every day after school so i would be the best. Before this i always wrote d and e. An official iq test 15 years ago sayed that i have an iq that is much far above average sayed and i think that extra ego made me use everything i had i guess and it worked. Ill even meet our president of germany in february because of a project ill have finished in january: .
Its kinda ironic but i think what depressed people need, is a big chunk of ego it is increasing self confidence. Not to much but still a big chunk. It makes you feel like you are worth A LOT more then u thought.

I've been self afflicting myself as I can't determine whether I have a bloated ego or not, but I believe I might now. I notice that I love seeing other people succeed and accomplish stuff, and I hate compliments. As a Kid i was declared Gifted and always did good in all my classes up to middle school. But I hated attention and never wanted to be a Nerd. So in High School I purposely didn't try and acted dumb amongst peers, and slowly started creating a i don't need school to succeed mindset. But where I can't determine whether I have a bloated ego is when someone says i can't accomplish or achieve something, because that just triggers something in me to prove them wrong and it gives me more motivation to achieve a certain task.
For example, after acting dumb and constantly sleeping in math class, a friend started to put herself on top of a pedestal while slowly throwing jabs at me insinuating that I was lazy and dumb. So in my mind I would say if only u knew, and thats when I started trying on my tests and constantly get A's. But I never showed her because I don't like making others feel bad, but it did bring me pride knowing I was smarter and still had it.
I'm just saying all this because I'm interested in what you guys think.

The trick is to accept that you _will_ make mistakes and are not perfect. That's just part of being human!
An inflated ego is triggered whenever we see, or are forced to see, something we did wrong. The inflated ego recoils, and tries to make excuses to avoid the negative feeling that our self-image is flawed in any way, leading to narcissistic behaviour.
But if you accept that mistakes are truly inevitable, _because you are only human, _ and integrate that acceptance into your self-image, then your ego won't recoil from the realisation that your self-image and reality don't match.
Then it becomes easier to say you're sorry to those you hurt, because you know that making mistakes is just part of being you, and it's now also easier to focus to improving yourself.
Think of yourself as a work-in-progress, and when the real world exposes yet another of your inevitable flaws, fix the damage (say you are sorry, but also feel grateful for yet another chance at self improvement. Now you know what you have to work on to be a better person tomorrow!
Of course you will never be perfect, but you now accept this, and you are always trying to travel in the direction of self-improvement.

I failed an exam that i was too confident about. But i remember that before taking the exam, i set a goal that i would do better than my friends, who, to me, are certified geniuses. After taking the exam, I was frustrated because of my bad performance. But what really hit me was the smile on my friends faces, who had definitely gotten a better score than me. That's where my ego came to eat me, and as such, i broke down. I became very aggressive and shouted out of anger.
My mind never had felt soo heavy, because i was mad for failing an exam i was confident about, amd jealous that my friends, whom i wanted to be better than, had already passed. I dont think iv ever broken down that bad before, but thats where i realised how big my ego was. I really dont know how to control it because this jealousy and feeling of unachivement really pushes me to act savagely. Iv also come to realise that i put really high standards for myself, thinking that i am capable of such standards just because other people are

So I grew up with the worst self esteem and confident. I never had ego at all growing up. But today some girl asked for my snap. She was overweight and I was not interested but did not want to be mean, so I have not replied yet so. That may seem fine to a lot of you, she's not my type and I'm not harsh or mean but I notice my thoughts take a dark turn. My thoughts told me that I did not break and work my body for this. Then after that thought I had now been struggling and wondering that why did I say that. I have never felt loved by a girl and have no right to think that. I've been told I'm good looking and have a great physical body. But I should not of said that. I feel bad and now I know why I always felt like I dont deserve anyone. Its because I gotta work on myself more and rid this hidden ego or whatever it is.

I, Don't know who i am, what im good at, what im bad at, what i must do, what i need to do, i do things for others. i do things for me, but i don't know who i am, so im going to give it one more hard go, and see where it leads, i can't give up. so i let go, of being. well i don''t know i just follow orders. do what im told, individuality is broken within me. i do my best to heal myself, and others, i need to get a job, but im slow, im weak so i look to improve my skills, but i feel like i must fail in everything, but i know thats a lie. and so i do my best to get things done, im only 22. feeling like a kid cause thats all i was treated like, and i neverr wanted that, i feel false, fake, untrue, despite everything i do. i feel lost. but i know, oneday, ill make it out.

The biggest sign for me that I strugglenwith controlling my ego is that I sense egotistic behavior in everyone around me and despise it. It bugs me so much when others make identity-centered decisions and make everything abiut themselves. But what you hate in others is usually something you hate yourself for. Liberating yourself from your ego is a long and hard process but I think we can get there. At least I hope we can.

I just realized that I am egotistical and I had the thought that I might be egotistical in the back of my mind because of my friends but it wasn't until I watched this video, and related to everything in it that I really saw my massive ego. I want to get rid of my nasty ego, do you guys have any suggestions? They would be very helpful and much appreciated, thanks to everyone who gives me any tips/ suggestions.

Well im pretty glad i dont fit the descriptions! Im pretty proud of myself now actually because it seems that how Ive been working on myself and meditating and being mindful keeps the ego in check! Good luck with anyone out their dealing with these issues. I hope you will feel better with yourself soon, truly. I would recommend journaling, it does wonders for introspection. It helps me so much

There is a way to grow a bigger ego with step 1.
All you need to say when you're wrong is: Charming, another person interested in this subject.
This will mostly work because people will stat feeling that they accomplished something meaningless when they can't impress you with what they have making the ego stay untouched.

what people consider ego I call it being a step ahead if im not a step ahead of everyone else bad things start to happen I wish I could just not use my head and not think but I can't because people always want to to drop the ego I just hear be worse let yourself get caught lacking is what I hear
reply

Im so confused, I feel like an inflated ego can be destructive, but what about confidence? Sometimes people say when you lack confidence is to fake it til you make it and kinda lie to yourself that you are confident and can achieve anything. Doesnt that also inflate the ego?
reply

I admit that i have a big ego bit in an other way. I am really bad in caring for myself. I feel like it to much of a hustle. I never learn for college even when I'm 27 and still in first year. I know I have these problems but it's so hard to let go of my ego.
reply

I relate to a few of the points here, and seeing people talk about low self-esteem in the comments, I relate to that somewhat too. Course, my mental state is one that is nigh unnavigable. I have no clue how I tick, or why, and no ways to find out.

: Happiness must be taken.
: Happiness must be earned.
: You can buy happiness and enjoy it for a short time before it is gone.
Self-esteem makes you weak and vulnerable and it useless.
I want the American Dream I need it I want it.

The thing to remember about your ego: you're not fooling anybody. People tend to know EXACTLY what kind of person you are, and if you try to artificially manipulate their views, they usually notice. Be yourself, it's hard, but it's all you can do.
