I like hanging out with people with whom I feel very comfortable. I don't like strangers. I especially don't like being around a LOT of strangers or being alone with strangers. When having some kind of big work get-together, I will seek out people I know and like. I don't like being around a lot of people for too long. I hate being forced to spend time at a close proximity to people, where I have to feel like I MUST be super polite, or look attentive. (like, restaurant lunch with mom's friends or friends of friends that I don't particularly want to talk to. I CAN pull off seeming very friendly and outgoing. (Actually, I'm not faking it - with close friends, people I feel comfortable around, I can be very energetic and enthusiastic.
Making new friends can be tiring (especially when there is no other distractions, like work - which could explain why I tend to make friends at work, or while playing online game. I also get tired when I'm around friends who constantly nag me about my life choices (like, being single or being a home-body. Even with friends whose company I adore, I need a certain amount of alone time before and after seeing them.
I feel really bad for my nephew, who I think is kind of like me, who has had to endure being forced into groups, his parents thinking something was wrong with him for NOT wanting to be a part of their community, etc. Even though he is an adult, they treat him like that. I had to go through that in my teens, when my parents thought I was kind of weird for wanting to stay home and read or study rather than go out with friends (the one saving grace was that I got great grades, which they were very proud of, so. .. there's that. I'm still an introvert but it's a lot less apparent, probably because I'm better at figuring out what kinds of social situations I enjoy.

i have lost a couple of toxic friends latley and found relief and peace. i have been over stressed most of my life. i am an intrevert and run out of batery very quickly when its noisy, especialy lots of people talking in the background, i have never wanted tv for company. never herd hsp but that is also me. i. q. 158 UK scale. im also an infj and highly empathic. and recovering from a serious stress induced, medical problem, a couple of narcisists and burn-out. i spent a year avoiding people entierly, then one year building up the time i spend with friends i am good being in a socail context 4 sessions a week (an am, pm or evening) but i am coping with one a day. i am continuing to build up time with people, but i would much rather spend time alone or with my dog

Ive learned that in the moments when Im having fun interacting with other people, I enjoy it. But only those parts. Once everything is said and done and I go back home, Im completely exhausted.
It takes so long to regain my energy after a single interaction. I never have enough time to get it all back before I have to use it up again. If I could, Id live in damn near complete solitude.
Interacting with people has always been a chore to me. To all different kinds of people. Some made it easier than others, but its all so difficult. Especially when its an argument. I get so overwhelmed that my head feels as though its going to explode. So instead I tend to stay away

I don't wanna say for sure that I'm the last and second point but It's the only ones that make any sense to me. Reviewing over my past time I've been social when I WANT to be and then do more of my schoolwork whenever I'm isolated from social environments, stress being that I have two jobs now and I had to request to my manager to change up my schedule a little because I was basically gone the entire say tue-thur which was a no-go, but besides that I don't think there's too much I can really say because again I don't know if it's high intelligence (looking back on it now, most likely, typing this a little late lol) or stress but yeah

Despite I'm an introvert, I think one reason for me is that I always overthink what the people I'm surrounding me with are doing and why they do what they do and what they might think about me.
And because of this I overthink what I should do and how it affects what the other people think about me.
And I feel like this overthinking is blocking me from just feeling comfortable cuz it's stressy and I always feel out of place.
And because I know it is stressy to be with people because I will overthink I don't even want to hang with em.
Can anyone relate on this?

If I go on a vacation with other people that causes a lot of social stimulation, I need to take an extra day off of work instead of returning to work the very next day. By the time I get home, I'm just completely drained. Being around or communicating with people, especially for that long, makes me moody and unproductive. I need complete solitude for a whole day to recharge. Even if it can get my battery to 50%, it's way better than 0%.
Yeah, I know. That's just called being an introvert.

I've given up making friends I only have classmates. I dont lik or get too close to people because most of them arent good people who will just hurt you. One of my friends in my friend group that i had known for 3 years turned out to be using as I would help her with homework and assignments. After all this time spending time with someone i thought i knew had been spreding horrible rumors about me since i moved to that school! Bottom line: dont trust people.

6. Your constantly confused by people who take forever to understand what is immediately obvious to you,
7. You don't find them interesting,
8. You spend a lot of time ruminating in the background (staring out the window) and people around you keep interrupting and insisting you need to go do something, when you're already fully engaged thank you very much,
9. Most people have no sense of humor.

reply

Because we've been betrayed, abandoned and hurt by those we care(d) for over and over again. At some point you just learn to not stick your hand in the fire anymore. At some point, one might realize that he's completely on his own, even in a room full surrounded by others that one has helped and been there for time and again. It's often about self preservation and self respect.

I'm mostly introverted and prefer to not go anywhere except for places I'm comfortable with. I also have some trust issues towards strangers and people I'm unfamiliar with because there are chances that they might be toxic or mean-spirited. That doesn't mean that I hate humanity, because I respect decent and sane human beings, especially my family.

as an introvert i can't stand the 'there's no me in team attitude. ' to which i usually respond 'well i can spell team without u. ' i can be just as, if not more productive, in team environments than extraverts. often times, while i'm advancing on a project, extroverts are busy dilly-dallying about, sometimes detouing the group's progress

Its a problem for me. I am an introvert and I dont prefer being in groups of people. But, I also often feel better after having been in a group. My mind understands that socializing can be good for me, while my personality avoids it. The result is that have no close friends, though I would like to have at least one or two good friends.
reply

One reason I think I am like this is because my parents ALWAYS SAY dont have bad friends which is good advice but they have put so much emphasis on this that in my mind I have created a good person and a bad person. In school LITERALLY EVERYONE matchs the bad person in my mind so it is hard to see the good in people
reply

People used to think I was anti-social in highschool. It's just that there were not many good people to socialize with and even fewer that I feel comfortable around.
Nowadays I don't care. I am okay not being friends with someone and even avoiding them if I feel that they are harmful for my mental health.

I would like to add another one:
You have low self esteem: You may not feel like you when you are around other people, which becomes overwhelming and you get stressed due to fear of rejection from people around you, so u mask yourself and don't have a good time with that.

reply

I'm primarily a loner. However I can relate to a group when I have to. Frankly, for me, a lot of people really don't have anything interesting to say. My partner is HSP so we get along great. I also have a disability which makes people feel uncomfortable around me at times.
reply

I've literally not talked to a single friend in over 8 years. I have kids, I go to law school, but I don't hang out with anyone but my kids. Haven't even spoken to a friend in almost a decade. And I'm happy. I have enough. I dread hanging with anyone. Literally dread it.
reply

Reason 1: Sadly, I do. Neighbors, family members, colleagues. Not much you can do about, sometimes
Reason 2: No doubt.
Reason 3: I am, 100%.
Reason 4: Not sure I am a HSP, but it could be.
Reason 5: well, I don't know, maybe yes, maybe not. Let's say I hope

I have my close friend group and I treat most others as distant as I can. It's difficult to get invested in other people when I'm comfortable with the people I know already. Still, it's nice to share in commonalities when I can find them in strangers.

I find that people in general are boring at best, insufferable at worst. I have to create alerts on my phone to reach out to friends to see how they're doing on a semi-regular basis. It feels like there is a lot of social pressure to be more outgoing.
reply

My issue with people is i just keep my mouth shut when i have nothing to say and i am more focused on working than chit chatting. Plus, i often find people very boring and slow to me. Just a few may catch my attention and give me a good time
reply

Problem is every large social space e. g. party, bar is just a bunch of already-formed small groups having internal conversations. Showing up to such spaces by yourself you just stand around without having an in.
reply

It would be wonderful if the next expansion took samples of the difference between it being people you're comfortable around versus people whose company is unpleasant to both the introvert/ambivert/extrovert.
reply

6, people=shit, when i go out to a bar for live music (plus i knew some guys in some bands) i would get my pop/soda and then find a corner an just stay there but that was back when i was a little social
reply

I think it's a combination of all 5 reasons. When you deal with despicable, lying shitbags all day long, it makes you lose your faith in mankind and despise being around people for any length of time.
