How the Universe is Way Bigger Than You Think Poorly made video. Most of the information given is either incomplete or wrong. Whats an AU, It is the distance between the Earth and the Sun correct, but what IS that distance? 1. 25 seconds communication between the Earth and the moon, correct, because thats how fast the speed of light goes(what the hell does that mean) Whats the speed of light to begin with, not mentionned The Milky way Galaxy has an estimated 400 Billion stars, not 100 Billions. And theres actually at least twice as many planets as there are stars in this galaxy. Wrong information. 35% of this video is about what Karl Sagan said and has nothing to do with the subject of this video. Gap filler to make the video longer than it needs to be.
There are way better videos that explains the vast distances of space than this one, with better examples. Although most of it is accurate, it is poorly presented.

A wise man once told me: -If you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of. Every human being who ever lived lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings. Thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines. Every hunter and every forager. Every hero and coward. Every creator and destroyer of civilisations. Every king and every peasant. Every young couple in love. Every hopeful child. Every mother and every father. Every inventor and Explorer. Every teacher of morals. Every corrupt politician. Every superstar. Every supreme leader. Every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there. On a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
-Wise words from Carl sagan.

This is one of the single greatest videos ever created. Explaining this type of stuff in layman's terms is a skill. I LOVE learning and have spread this type of enthusiasm for a long time. But I cant watch some (for lack of a better word) nerd explain it because they aren't used to having normal conversations in general. So the awkward social aspect of explaining science in layman's terms is incredibly important and can be difficult for the ultra smart people who actually discover it. I show this video to everyone I can.

1 Corinthians 15: 1-4
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

I feel big or small, I just feel like I live in one big organism, but when I feel small (which I don-t anymore) I feel limited, I feel like I-m not smart enough about other things, it makes me feel like climate change doesn-t matter at all, it makes me feel like nothing or no one in life matters, not even politics, or friends or family, makes me feel like nothing matters, and it even makes me feel like humans are incapable of truly amazing things

God and God alone
Created everything we call our own
From the mighty to the small
The glory of them all
Is God's and God's alone
God and God alone
Reveals the truth
To things we call unknown
And all the best and worst of man
Won't change the master plan
Of God and God alone
God and God alone
Is fit to take the universe's throne
Let everything that lives
Reserve its truest praise
For God and God alone!

In my experience, the people that deny that aliens could exist or that think it's not possible are primarily from devout Christians or Jews and even sometimes fundamentalist Muslims. If its not found in their religious book or not mentioned, it doesn't exist or didn't happen. This is precisely what many scientists who do think alien life exists have said that acknowledgement of alien life would end the arrogance of Earths 3 major religions.

solar system --> milky way galaxy --> local group --> virgo supercluster --> the great Laniakea supercluster (100, 000 galaxies) --> observable universe (2 trillion galaxies; 46. 5 billion light years from earth to its border) --> an unknown size of unobservable universe (if Alan Guth is right, then for now probably the observable universe if a light bulb in the center of the former planet of Pluto)

It-s difficult to consider, there may be another intelligent race somewhere out in that black sea. They will exist for thousands of years, excel at all their endeavors, reach their moons, inhabit other planets, bend the world to their will and pass down stories of their achievements to their children, just as we do. And we will almost certainly never know of one another.

My astronomy professor once told me that. -Based of the size of space, it-s extremely likely that there-s another planet where everything on it is exactly to the same scale as earth. Even the people and the exact time and year are the same. Every grain of dust is in the same exact place as earth. -
reply

How can the virgo supercluster only be a tiny part of the Laniakea supercluster as said in this video, when the virgo supercluster is 110 million light years and the Laniakea supercluster is 520 million light years. Is it not about 1/5th of the supercluster then? (at around 6mins in the video)

If we have one place, it does not manage enough to exist. But if we have two places, we can measure different things between them: distance and speed. If the other place moves faster than light away, it does not exist to the other place in material meaning.
reply

Universe must be infinite, because it couldnt be created, for each created thing has its own creator so it would be neverending loop. It just is. We cannot comprehend it because we are living in a world where everything has its beginning and the end.
reply

Human cant even comprehend the vastness of the universe yet they keep insisting that resources are limited. If we can focus on advancing our technology enough to explore the universe instead of fighting each other we may have hope yet.

Mars can be way closer then just 20 lightminutes. shortest distance can be 6 minutes. I think thats just fine for a SMS conversation. Even 20 minutes isnt that bad. But i guess gaming doesent work or a phonecall.
reply

This is why I don't believe we have been visited by aliens. We are incredibly small, so far away, that an advanced civilization wouldn't even know we exist. The odds of aliens just happen to find us is ridiculous

Isaiah 40: 15
15 No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket.
They are nothing more than dust on the scales.
He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand.

I truly believe that we humans are the only living intelligent beings in the universe.
All those aliens and ufos people see those are from an alternate dimension.
Just my opinion

reply

How tiny we are and how we bomb one another blindly, i come to a realisation of how nothing we are to think we have a say in this vast universe.
reply

I don-t believe ANY of this. How do we NOT KNOW what-s going on in the NEXT solar system, but we apparently can see the next GALAXY? BS!
reply

It is statistically impossible that we are the only intelligent life not just outside the observable universe but also inside it

I've watched this video a BILLION times, still never ceases to amaze me. Easily one of the best videos I've ever watched!

I always wondered, is it just endless space, or is there some sort of wall at the end? And if so what's beyond that wall?

What a mighty God to keep every single galaxy, every part of the universe in divine and perfect order. Blows my mind!

You guys should make a video titled -How quakes (and other subatomic particles ) are way smaller than you think. -

My cousin is a priest, I am not going to show him that video so he will not accuses me of trying to change his mind

When you shuffle a deck of cards, there are more possible combinations than there are planets in the universe

To measure and see what-s there, we need to have something way way faster than Light! Excellent Video!
