You didn’t even mention the possibility of Greenland joining its closest neighbour, Canada. The Inuit of Nunavut are the closest cultural and ethnic cousins of Greenlanders. The types of defence capabilities that Greenland needs are the same as that of Canada, such as armed icebreakers, which Canada is currently building. Canada has a long established and huge mining industry, which could easily expand into Greenland. Canada has better rule of law and much better income equality than the United States. If Greenland was a territory of Canada, transfers from the federal government would actually be a lot more generous than what they get from Denmark. For example, Nunavut currently receives over $50, 000 per person per year. Canada could guarantee Greenland full control over its fishing rights and they could negotiate an arrangement to split the royalties from mining. The United States might offer Greenlanders more money upfront, but they would never treat Greenlanders with respect.

Fact Check: The Mexican territory themselves were independent republics. When Spain pulled out, the then First Mexican Empire declared all Spanish territory their’s by right to which the local government refused to acknowledge. Proceeding Empires will continue to declare the territory theirs (they had a lot of short lived governments. The republics made various attempts to become apart of the U. S. and the Americans offered to purchase the land to avoid future complications but also denied the republics attempts to become of U. S. territory. With no abilities to govern the land the Mexican President sent forces into Texas to refuse Mexican rule in the 1840s. This lead to death of both American and Texan citizens which then lead the U. S. to get involved, eventually taking their capital. Peace terms would be the Republic of Texas, California, Utah, etc. would be paid for and all land acknowledged as Mexico by the Americans would be given back.

Why not just divide Greenland in half, and sell the northern half to the U. S. That would give the U. S. and its allies, including Denmark, all the protection it needs, and Denmark would retain it’s interest in the Arctic region, etc. And, the great majority of Greenlanders live in the southern half, and would not be effected. Everyone knows that at this stage of world history, the U. S. is the major defender of the free, Western world. If the bullets started flying, Denmark would come running to the U. S. for protection in a hot New York minute. So, it seems kind of short sighted of them to reject the idea of selling to the U. S. the strategic assets it needs for our mutual defense. Finally, I’d be happy to negotiate the deal for a VERY reasonable commission.

The US already has all the access to extract ressources and build military bases or whatever they need and want. It’s been that way since the 1950’s, so the only reason I see for Trump to make Greenland a part of the US, is Trump’s desire to go down in history as one of the biggest presidents and fuel his own ego by making the US bigger. Trump also needs to understand, that Greenland is not something the Danish government can simply give up as he says, it’s a part of our kingdom but they have their own government, and technically that government would have to vote for complete independence and then they’d be free to join whoever, but I can see 1000 American troops standing on the Greenlandic shores within a few hours of them declaring independence.

The cables argument is no longer valid, communication can be done with the multiple satellite arrays. With such a small population, propaganda and emotional manipulation is extremely possible, people tend to respond well to emotional stimuli and will end up voting against their own legitimate interest. I bet on US acquiring eventually Greenland, with the very help of the native population, and what happened to Hawaiian population will happen for Greenland population as well - they will become a minority in their own country.

This video fails to take into consideration the many downsides if greenland were to leave denmark. Denmark not only pays alot of money to greenland, it also provides extensive social welfare, free healthcare, free education, and much more. All of which would be lost should they leave denmark and become independent, and even more so if they should join the us. But not too surprising that a murican mainly focus on the upside of becoming MURICAN! Cause it's totally the greatest country in the world to live in (not.

Your appear to be somewhat ignorant about the facts. Frederik X has traveled 2000 miles in North Greenland. His change of the coat of arms was initiated on the day he became king. Your president can't even walk to the nearest McDonalds. To sum up the 1951 treaty in few words: The U. S. A. gets a base allowance and pays for it by taking care of the defence of Greenland on behalf of Denmark. Now the U. S. A. claims that we do not defend it well enough by having an agreement that defending it is your job.

In the 1950s, the Danish government forcefully took Inuit children from their families and brought them to Denmark to be raised 'properly' (white europeans way); In the 1970s, the Danish government forcefully inserted IUDs into Inuit women and girls against their consent to 'control the birth rate' in Greenland.
Again, the evil white devils (European descent) have forced their savagery upon other people (of color) while masquerating their evil deeds as missions of mercy and good will.

31: 10 that question didn't land well with me as my town on top of having 10 times greenlands population has port with LNG terminal and able to ship raw materials, a mostly defunct but existing shipyard, an oil rafinery, some chemical plants, a grain mill, couple universities and everything that goes around it
with history of being independent pseud-state entity and carrying lik 1/4th of my whole nations gdp in the past
so I think it's enough to start building up; )

I know joining a new country is an absolutely terrifying prospect (and as an American I am biased) but the thought of everyone I know becoming a billionaire overnight is an insane thought. 500k alone would change my life. A billion each is an inconceivable amount. There would still be so much room for things to go wrong though.
This is all really insane to me. I can’t imagine how the people in Greenland must be feeling right now. So much uncertainty.

A lot of greenlanders want independence. .However if you ask them if they would also accept a drop in living standard from losing the danish subsidies most of those people say no. Moreover, 60% of greenlanders also want to rejoin the EU. Lesson: Don't put too much value on polls.
Edit: Personally I think any greenlandic independence would be short lived because the US does not tolerate not having some control with the island.

NO!
The Inuit killed the Viking settlements!
There were reports send back, also the Inuits has tales of it.
And Danish West indies were sold, because the US threaten to invade and take it!
And in that agreement, the US signed, that they would NEVER try to take Greenland. That was the Agreement!
If they want Greenland now, they are breaking the agreement and must give back West Indies Islands to Denmark!

The Real Reason Trump is Threatening to Seize Greenland - He's no better than Putin
Also: Denmark can't sell what it doesn't own. Greenland is part of the Federation of the Kingdom of Denmark, just as Denmark itself is. Denmark selling Greenland would be like America selling Texas - quite apart from the Texans likely not being keen the 'USA' is made up of it's states, they don't belong to the USA.

I have no problem with your individual political views but please have the integrity to not report a blatant lie like the leader of Greenland said it wasn’t for sale. Do a little research and you will see he said he was open to discussion with the US. You seem to agree with colonialism only when it works to prove your point. Love your vids but if you value input keep your bias minimal.

Thanks for the great video!
I would like to hear from Greenlanders if there are any watching, what do they think about the whole thing.
for me I think it's either joining USA or leaving Denmark or the country would just be in a neutral state (with no big leaps) forever.
Maybe that's the ultimate goal for the locals, just to live in their own and not minding the whole world.

Like, I appreciate all the background info on the rich resources and history in Greenland. But you don't throw away decades of positive relations, cooperation, and free trade with Denmark (and by extension EU and Canada) because Trump says Me want. Give me. The least intelligent Americans have truly elected someone who 100% represents them: an orange toddler in XXL diapers.

Killers of the flower Moon abiut how the Osage tribe was targeted by Americans for their rights to the oil and them being systematically killed off. Creating the FBI might bear some resemblance of what would happen in Greenland. I would hope not. I do wish Greenland would join the US for prosperity of the greenlands population and America's population. 31: 11

Sounds like Denmark doesn't have any business managing a territory that size. Their only military worth speaking of is what we have donated to them.
Edit: just saw the part about Intuit abuses. Fck Denmark. They have no moral high ground over anyone. Greenland clearly isn't on track to taking care of themselves

The earth's climate has been constantly changing for billions of years and the human race is arrogant enough to think that we have any control over this. This information is pure conspiracy. Trump is not going to seize anything as he us President and contrary to what the lunatics say, he us not a dictator.
