She managed to keep herself alive by eating fallen food from the airplane and fruits from the trees which, she claims, she had no idea about because she was nearsighted and they could have been poisonous. It was the sheer will to survive that kept her going, and the desire to find other survivors. She did discover other passengers (never her mother) but none alive, and many were still strapped in their seats. She was the only one alive.
When she was finally rescued, she helped the search party discover the wreckage and several bodies. It was only then that she discovered that her mother was dead.

The fact that she survived the Amazon jungle with no help, that long, broken collarbone, vast predators land and water, that young, found shelter and eventually was found. to get BACK on a plane she just survived an explosion, the plane falling apart, got sucked out, free fell for thousands of feet. was the Most High, he had a purpose for her life! Experts die in the Amazon, she was guided and protected. had to have been!

Also, here mother was sitting next to her in the plane. When her body was found, Juliane's father analysed his wifes's dead body and found out that she likely survived for up to two weeks after the crash before she died in the jungle. That said, it is likely that multiple people survived the crash itself but died days or weeks later because they were unable to find any kind of civilization.

I have a nearsightedness and I know how hard it is without a glass for a moment. Imagine living in a jungle for 11 days without it, not to mention the scarcity of food and the injuries. Way to go girl! I really feel sorry for her lost! Love you girl! - -

Just for clarification, collarbone breaks hurt like absolute hell. A girl I was riding with once broke her collarbone after a nasty fall, and I swear you could hear her screaming from across the barn until the ambulance came to get her.

I-m just pointing out that the population of the Amazon Rain Forest is actually 30 million people with the biggest being Manaus with a population of 2. 2 million as of 2014. No offensive or anything I-m just pointing it out. -

She survived because she landed feet down and the trees reduced her impact speed. To survive a fall you need to land right and hit something that has give. The human body can survived most rapid deceleration that is not instant

I have no knowledge of anything of value but maybe the chair hit the treetops at a good angle absorbed most of the impact and kept her from being smashed on the jungle floor?

How did she know what to eat, what did she drink, how did she avoid the snakes and other dangerous animals in the jungle. So much is missing from the story
