The Bizarre 300 Year Adventure of Oliver Cromwell's Head Im in the akward position of being the grandson of Lord Cromwell and a relative of Russells. It angers me that grandad did so much good for the nation only to be treated like that by a nasty king and every ungrateful sod who took him as an object to do god knows what with. He was a hero. He stood up for freedom when no one else could. Now he can rest in peace.

He was so horrible that when he died, they still executed him after death because they wanted his death to be seen and shared in. The things oliver Cromwell did in life are unbelievably evil; he is one of the few people who really deserved this, he probably deserved even worse. Most of the deaths he gave others would be a much more cruel death.

I learned a few years ago that Oliver Cromwell is my great something grandfather. I find it fascinating that someone that I'm related to had such a massive impact on England history. And the fact his head was passed around for three hundred years is quite strange yet interesting. I wonder if his head will ever be found again.

Charles II and James II were brothers, not father and son. And hanging drawing and quartering did not involve the ripping of the body by horses. It was done with an axe more deliberately to get the four pieces as it was less likely to cover the crowd in body parts as that would have ruined their day.

Cromwell:
Made his country a republic
Made himself a monarch
His son took over after
Regime collapsed
Head lobbed off when already dead
Napoleon:
Made his country a republic
Made himself a monarch
His son took over after
Regime collapsed
Sent to an island

So, were there any teeth left to get some handle on whether it was the man himself or not? Call me skeptical, but we've all heard enough about how many religious relics are situated here, there, there and somewhere else again. Thrice over.
In short, could be just about anybody's!

-The Epic Adventures of Cromhead- - what a wholesome story.
You can make a killer-comedy fiction out of it. The head talks while in the possession of numerous people and travelling all around the world.

So you're telling me. A disembodied head that belonged to someone who had taken over England and killed the former ruler of england got killed again twice had a better life than me?
reply

Perhaps Charles II head should have been treated the same. Cromwell should have wiped the entire lineage of the tyrant king when he had the opportunity. Too bad that he didn't.

could you imagine going to a house party with a bunch of comedy bros and out of nowhere the host whips out a severed, decaying head and starts passing it around?
reply

Slight correction. James II was not the son of Charles II, but rather his younger brother and the younger son of the executed King Charles I. Thanks!
