Explore the probability of a future pandemic and the steps we can take to reduce its destructiveness. We tend to think of pandemics as unlikely events, but disease outbreaks are surprisingly common. Over the past 400 years, the longest stretch of time without a documented outbreak was just four years. So, what s the probability of experiencing another world-changing pandemic in your lifetime? Explore the likelihood of a future pandemic and the steps we can take to reduce its destructiveness.

When you put so many farm animals (and humans for that matter) packed together so closely (and only keeping them healthy via anti-biotics) it should be obvious that when the lines break, and uncureable diseases spread, they spread FAST
After all, it has actually shown that the more biodiversity there is in nature, the less death by diseases there are.
For instance, the form of agriculture called agrofrrestry or perma-culture, the farmer doesn't have to relly on pesticides at all because all the things in the farm do their thing to the local environment and keep it healthy.

One of the best ways to reduce the risk of new pandemics is to transition to a plant-based food system. Packing huge amounts of animals tightly together, like barns full of tens of thousands of chickens, is a recipe for disease transmission and mutation, until it can jump to humans.

It's a touchy subject, but another notable factor is humanity's increasing ability to purposefully modify existing pathogens and make them more potent. The infamous lab leak hypothesis does not look to have been true this time, but it's also a disturbingly plausible scenario.

It was far too profitable to not happen again. Allow your rights to be taken in an emergency, and emergencies will be created in order to take away rights. Never again. No new high priest class of so-called public health egoists.

Eventually, a disease as difficult to control as Ebola, and as easily spread as influenza, will emerge, wiping out most of the population of ever nation. If Ebola was spread via aerosol transmission, we d be there now.

The thing is, I don't see the misinformation thing getting any better. So many people died, because people can't be arsed to do the minimum like wearing masks in public spaces. The sheer selfishness is unfathomable.

The likelihood of a future pandemic is much higher because humans keep messing around with gain of function research in laboratories. Laboratories where it s just impossible to guarantee there won t be a lab leak.

Our math teacher gave us project on making a presentation about the expected outcome of data in terms of population growth and the spread of virus using exponential functions. This helps me a lot, thanks!

The real question is, when will the monetary system be exposed as corruption in government? That's when true knowledge and freedom will benefit humanity and the small gods will fall! Wake up

We don t cure the common cold bc it s not deadly plus it generates loads of money for cold medicine so there s no real reason to actually cure it forever

what does contact tracing have to do with ai? cant imagine how ai would be of any use there. 2 smartphones in close proximity and it goes off? no ai needed

this dr. norman swan could be one of the team members who make new viruses. the doctor's ancestors may have helped make pandemic virus in their days

These numbers and calculations do not matter if someone Xi Gates sitting in some corner of the world changes his mind and gets even crazy, right?
reply

Hopefully not. We've already lost enough people. Hoping that world will be a better place for everyone in the near future. Have a nice day everyone.
