2, 300 years ago, the rulers of Alexandria set out to fulfill a very audacious goal: to collect all the knowledge in the world under one roof. In its prime, the Library of Alexandria housed an unprecedented number of scrolls and attracted some of the Greek worlds greatest minds. But by the end of the 5th century CE, it had vanished. Elizabeth Cox details the rise and fall of this great building. Lesson by Elizabeth Cox, directed by Inna Phillimore

Knowledge will disappear because of selfish humans who are afraid of others becoming smarter than them.
So they will proclaim all these books of knowledge are against their religious teachings and have them burnt. India is lucky they still have a lot of literary work still intact wheras China's Shi Huang Ti burnt a lot of books to keep the masses illiterate.
Think that is why Chinese families emphasize a lot on learning and they have much respect for teachers.

July 26, 2020.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
George Santayana
We're doomed to repeat the past no matter what. That's what it is to be alive. It's pretty dense kids who haven't figured that out by the time they're ten. Most kids can't afford to go to Harvard and be misinformed.
Kurt Vonnegut
Its happening in America right now.

Hypathia was not murdered being accused to study old books in the library. At least not in real life, maybe it's true in the film but don't know if that is a credible source.
Also not sure why the reference of Columbus, the notion of the earth being a globe have always existed, has been a common and popular knowledge for millennia. Until now, it seems.

Nalanda university of India shared the same fate. Nalanda university (5th -13th century AD) was an international centre of learning. Islamic ruler Bakhtiyaar Khilji burnt it to the ground along with more than thousand teachers and students in 1100AD. The library contained so many books that records reveal it kept burning for whole 3 months.

The library was a treasure trove. Just as the video said that the discovery of steam engine and the true shape of the earth was discovered way before we believed them to be, there could be numerous more such discoveries and inventions that modern science still hasn't figured out yet.

Sorry, but this video is more politically correct disinformation. The record shows clearly that the library was in existence at the time of the Arab conquest, and that it was Caliph Umar who ordered its destruction.

I watched a very interesting movie about that time in history, called AGORA. Hypatia was played by Rachel Weisz. The Library of Alexandria survived earthquakes and fire, but not religious intolerance.

wait is that possibly why librarys and museums are stereotypically known to have pillars and lion statues out front? kind of a descendant if what alexandria wouldve looked like?

I'm convinced that religion (any of them) is a cancer. It taints or destroys everything it touches. (just expessing my thoughts, i will not engage in any kind of discussion)

One of the many reasons why i hate religion to my core. They hate knowledge, curiosity and reasoning. We are not sheep, we are an advanced species of primates.
