In her Auntie An-meis home, Jing-Mei reluctantly takes her seat at the eastern corner of the mahjong table. At the north, south and west corners are her aunties, long-time members of the Joy Luck Club. This gathering is the point of departure for a series of interconnected vignettes in Amy Tans debut novel. Sheila Marie Orfano explores why the novel still captivates readers worldwide. Although all Ted animations are superb this is just sometimes else. Like this is not ted style. But as usual beautiful. I know about most of the books that you have covered under this series of why you should read but I have never heard of this. will definitely read this after quarantine!

I'm re-reading this for the third time! I used to borrow my best friend's copy, but I found one last month at a second-hand bookshop for a dollar. Thanks for this video, TedEd! I hope that this video inspires others to read this masterpiece. :)

I have this book; I remembered I read it but I think I didn't appreciate it enough. I should go back and re-read it. Especially now that I can empathize with the main char more after my own mother's passing.

I actually read this book and i suggest anyone who can relate to the inner struggle of teenage daughters and their mothers will enjoy taking lessons about sacrfice and the fear of not being good enough.

can anyone tell me if the book is good or not? i understand the plot but how is the writing style, imagery and all that. do you get sucked into the book?

I love the book and the film actually did a great job capturing it I think. This is a must read for children of immigrant families, not just Chinese.
