On February 20th, 2003 in West Warick, Rhode Island, tragedy struck during a Great White headlined concert. The devastating accident, often referred to as The Station nightclub fire, killed 100 people and injured hundreds more. The pyrotechnics quickly became disastrous as materials caught on fire and the air became thick with toxic smoke. Today we're taking a look at what happened, who was involved, and where band members are today.

I lived in RI during this time and live right outside the border so Im practically still a Rhode Islander. Ill tell you this NO ONE will play Great White. On the radios, in the clubs, their cars - NO WHERE. It brings up this sickening feeling in our stomach. We were all affected by this tragedy. I was supposed to be there that night with about 10 of my friends. Another club owner called my band asking us to play that night at his club because a band canceled. He saved our lives. I still have nightmares that I was there with my brother screaming for him. I knew so many people that died and so many people that made it out who suffer from PTSD to this very day. Its one of the darkest days I can ever recall in my lifetime.

It wasnt _Polyethylene Foam; _ they had makeshift soundproofing made up of one layer of highly flammable urethane foam on top of polyethylene foam (the latter being difficult to ignite but releasing much more heat once ignited by the less dense urethane foam. Burning polyurethane foam instantly develops dark smoke laced with Hydrogen Cyanide Gas _(HCN)_ & Carbon Monoxide Gas _(CO. _ Inhalation of this smoke only 2-to-3 times would cause rapid loss of consciousness & then death would obviously result either due to internal suffocation, or burning to death in the fire

At 6: 02, there's a clean blue-print. But where is what? I can't tell where the band was or where the people were bottle-necked. I honestly don't know what I'm looking at. I see Dance Floor and Raised Platform, . Where did the people get stuck in the hallway? I can't discern what the hell I'm looking at! Where was the fire, started, and how would one know what this blue print is depicting? I simply don't see indications of people even inside or at the front door. What are we looking at?

I believe Jack Russell and the band were as much as victims as the crowd, look they are just humans, musicians. I think the venue is totally at fault for lack of fire suppression, chained exits, not to mention breaking fire codes including overcrowding. I wasnt there but being 57 I was around when it happened and I was in Rhode Island at the time. Fuc, sucks all the way around.

I was in this town for a wedding about a year ago. I stopped by to pay respects. I didn't know anyone there and I didn't know anyone lost, but I love music and I remember vividly the night this happened and the news coverage and just being sad. For all the families.
What a horrible story. The memorial park is very beautiful though.
RIP to everyone who died.

ive been to hundreds and hundreds of concerts, many of them bar shows like this, especially back in the 90s and I keep thinking about what I would have done. I most likely would have been towards the front and would have downplayed the seriousness of the situation at first. Theres no way I would have made it out either. That bottleneck happened quick

This is probably the most horrific i have ever seen, and then the screaming from the people who are burning and then the silence, the silence of death. There are no words to discribe what happend in there. Those people who where stuck in the entrance and piled up did they make it on time outside or where they burned?
reply

when he states fans up close were unaware and seen raising their beers and pumping their fist, that is absolutely false. Anyone who has watched the video can clearly see many people waving their hand at the band and frantically pointing for them to turn around to make them aware of what was happening

When tf did wear Warwick RI become rural? There is no woods and open fields over here. Ri is made up of mostly cities and west Warwick is 1 in its own. Ppl dont get that you can literally drive threw all of RI in under an hour. Were the smallest state but in no way shape or form are we considered rural?

Rest In Peace to all of those who lost their lives in this tragedy or were hurt during this. I cant imagine the pain and horrors they have to carry with them for the rest of their lives. Especially people who went with their significant other and were the only ones who made it out

Wow, I didn't know Jack Russell never said anything. Ok, he didn't light them off, he wasn't connected to the club, and all his other reasons. but NO He has to address this to the victims! COME ON man, you say nothing you deserve the gutter bars and clubs! I used to be a fan.

Its probably Russels attorneys that tell him not to apologize. Its an easy thing to do so I understand the memorials position. At the same time he wasnt guilty of anything, besides hiring a dipshit mgr. It was a terrible accident. Clearly there was zero intent from anyone.

Nice anti-80s rock band narrative.
opened for second tier metal acts like Ratt and Night Ranger
Yeah, second tier acts who were headlining arenas while piling up multiple platinum albums for the better part of a decade. Get a clue.

These people were laid down in a nest of sin and that is where they perished! Sin is an abomination to the LORD and shall be cleansed by FIRE! The LORD giveth and the LORD taketh away! Praise me to the LORD!

Jack Russell was part of the blame. Sorry to all his fans. He wanted a big 1980s show with big explosions, spandex, etc. He got off, but knows he's a turd, coward, and so are the fans who defend him.

2 exits chained shut? I blame the two owners of the club 100% for trying to save two pennies over peoples life & limb. So what if one or two people sneak the fook in? Cheap greedy mf'er's.
reply

Why wasnt the bouncer charged with at least manslaughter? He intentionally prevented people from escaping knowing people were already being burned, asphyxiated and trampled.
reply

I wish there were videos, interviews and books about the firemen who responded there. Understaffed, overwhelmed and trying their best to save as many people as they could.

I saw them about a week before this occurred, in fort Wayne Indiana. There was no pyrotechnics at that show. Condolences to all that lost friend's or family that night.

Next year marks 20 years since this tragedy. If you go anywhere, make sure to stay close to an exit. It prevents something like this from happening again.
