Weird History presents Timeline and the year 1988. In 1988, we would see one of the largest oil spills ever with the Exxon Valdez, the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson, take one an undefeated opponent in one of the biggest boxing matches of the century and the release of Eddie Murphy's iconic Coming to America. Check out Timeline 1988 for the news, sports, culture, and all that was weird. Weird History's Timeline: The 80s

The 1987-88 NBA season is arguably the greatest in history. The MVP race between Jordan, Bird, and Magic; Jordan as the first MVP to also become Defensive Player of the Year, the first DPOY to win the scoring title, and the first player to accumulate 200+ steals with 100+ blocks in a season twice; Bird becoming the first player to be in the 50-40-90 club twice; Jordan vs Wilkins iconic dunk contest; Bird's legendary 3pt contest threepeat; Bird vs Wilkins Game 7 duel; Isiah's sprained ankle game; Lakers fulfilling Pat Riley's repeat guarantee (ending the league's drought since 1969); Worthy recording the first ever Game 7 triple-double; Stockton finally unleashed from the bench to begin his nine consecutive assists titles along with racing Jordan and A. Robertson (all-time steals per game leader) for the steals title; and so on and so forth.
It also featured at least 22 eventual Hall of Fame players: Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Adrian Dantley, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Alex English, Dominique Wilkins, Patrick Ewing, Scottie Pippen, Reggie Miller.

Spectacularly embarrassing press conference 14: 57
Rob & Fab seem to be owning up to the deception and are trying to bring some awareness and credit to the real singers (Brad Hall & John Davis) at this point they'd already suffered the most of their embarrassment. It's not like they themselves conceived the plot. Rest in Peace Rob Pilatus. To be honest i still like that album and enjoy it unashamedly.
Lets at least acknowledge Rob & Fab did probably mostly likely come up with that Tic-Toc dance move where they'd swing their leg left and right like a dance version of a Newton's Cradle.

Missing the horrific air show accident at Ramstein Air Force Base on 28 August, 1998. Three pilots and 67 spectators were killed, and 346 spectators were seriously injured. At the time it was the deadliest air show disaster ever. I guess I put that over Sweet Child o' Mine as being an important event in 1988 (and damn I love that song, so that is saying something.

Oh, that's not all Jimmy the Greek said. He also said that black people were better athletes because they were bred for superior physicality by slave masters. I am paraphrasing, but he said that too.
I mean, objectively speaking, he probably wasn't wrong. But that's not the kind of shit anyone wants to hear when they are trying to enjoy a Sunday football game.

I'm born in 88, thanks for this amazing timeline videos! though I never really lived in the 80s in a sense that I can relive and remember them, somehow they are in my genes, in my blood so to speak. I can feel them and feel that they must have been very unique! play a synth line and you've got me goosebumps, that's the way I feel about the 80s: -)

The Los Angeles Lakers would win the NBA Finals, The Los Angeles Dodgers would win the MLB World Series and An Elliott from Dawsonville, Georgia driving the 9 car would win the NASCAR Cup Series Championship all in the same year with Bill Elliott winning the Championship in 1988 and his son Chase Elliott winning it 32 years later

I was born in mid-December of '88. It's wild to see this timeline. I absolutely love Curling. I worked with genetically engineered mice for breast cancer research. Van Gogh is my favorite artist - though I would never steal a painting, of course. So cool to see how many things I so strongly relate to in my birth year.

Jimmy The Greek was absolutely right back then just look at today they took over almost all sports and want hundreds of millions of dollars to play. This is why i only watch hockey cause they are too much of pussies to play that sport plus hockey players make a lot less than other sports.

Despots all over the world are born from the same swamp. a swamp that can never be drained.

In 2007, some little shit-stirrer started Rick Rolling people.
That part always gets me. I also remember the parade. I was a teenager at the time, woke up early, and then it happened.
I actually almost spit out my coffee because the execution was so damn good.

Are you nervous because you haven't met Michael's fiance yet?
No, I'm nervous because if Sunny Bono gets elected mayor of Palm Springs, he's going to make all the postmen wear leather bell bottoms and a fur vest.

Shout out to Skyline Chili! Only been to Cincinnati once on a road trip, but the guys I was driving with were raving about it for 5 states! I gotta admit it hit the spot for 4 starving college guys!

Are you upset about the money you owe the government?
No, Blanche, I'm upset because Jimmy Swaggart can't cover his Motel bill.
Now just why did I immediately think of that?

reply

08: 51 - Huh, pathogen outbreak that a communist government blamed on eating bad meat, which was coincidentally close to a bioweapon research lab.
Now where have I heard that before?

reply

8: 37 No Rose, I'm upset because if Sonny Bono gets elected mayor of Palm Springs, he's going to make all the postmen wear leather bell bottoms and a fur vest.

Also the year my parents were married. People told them to get hitched on August 8th (8/8/88) for good luck, but they did it in September instead.

reply

Okay, filing the lawsuits and revoking the Grammy over finding out that they lipsinked at concerts was so extra. Like super unnecessary lmfao
