One of the worst movie set accidents ever occurred during the filming of Twilight Zone: The Movie. The film is now mainly remembered for its tragic behind the scenes story. Steven Spielberg decided to make the hit television show into a motion picture and he enlisted three other directors to create segments of the film. John Landis, who was a hot commodity after Animal House and The Blues Brothers, was given Time Out. In this segment, a man tries to make up for past sins by becoming a hero

If john landis had followed some rules and prevented the lives of these three actors then this movie could've been a classic steven spielberg could've made the monsters are due on maple street joe dante's segment great and george miller's segment would've also been great overall the movie could've been great but now it is shrowded in darkness by this terrible tragedy now those poor parents of the children are all alone and jennifer jason liegh dosen't have a father anymore beacuse the twisted john landis is responsible for this he should've been charged with millions of dollars and thrown into prison for the rest of his life R. I. P. Vic morrow and those two children i hope your happy in heaven where you will never feel pain again

I will never watch this film because of the tragedy. It was one that was completely preventable and horrifically gruesome. Landis and the producer should have done jail time, if not for involuntary manslaughter then at least for flagrant violation of child labor laws. Landis' attitude about it makes it even more infuriating that he walked away with a slap on the wrist. It ruined my career. Um, asshole, not only are you alive and not decapitated/crushed by a freaking helicopter, YOU MADE MOVIES AFTER THE TRAGEDY! Half the crew never worked again!

Landis should've definitely been convicted of Manslaughter but also the pilot is not blameless either of it were me (if I was alive then and a trained helicopter pilot for. Reasons) I wouldn't have done it. Fire me if you want but the stunt is too dangerous and I would rather be jobless than risk killing a man and 2 children. I wouldn't be able to live with myself their faces would haunt me in my dreams and every time I look in the mirror and eventually I'd probably be driven to suicide from the guilt of killing those people.

Honestly after hearing all the details of this case, this disaster was completely inevitable, it seemed like the director didn't even have any direction for where the scene was going, he wanted the helicopter to be attacking them, flying over explosions, just for it to land and pick them up at the end? It makes no sense. It's like Landis just wanted to do what he wanted with no restraint and didn't actually care about the safety of anyone on set or even actually finishing the production for that matter.

Steven Spielberg and John Landis, . that explains the anti-white propaganda, and political correctness of the film. This can be seen in all of their films, subtly insinuating or not so subtly. And Landis didn't have to go to jail either. Well, what do you expect! They practically own the law.
It is disgusting with the influential power this (unnameable) elite possesses.
But I got to hand it to John Landis, the prologue segment of Twilight Zone: The Movie is great!

A guy around the same age as he was tortured and brutally killed a child got life sentenced, meanwhile this guy not only tortured a child but he tortured and killed 2 kids with an innocent man and got away with it and even ended up making money because of the finished published production from 3 killed actors and still be able to continue his career. Disgusting

The fact that fking John Landis never ended up in jail for this is one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in history. Those poor kids and Vic Morrow shouldn't have been in such a horrifically dangerous situation. I know that videos of the accident and decapitation are able to be viewed, but I refuse to see it. The description is abhorrent enough for me.

For the record, the death sequence was shot by an imprudent and low-life John Landis. Landis, who was neither concerned about OSHA or labor laws, decided to film an extremely dangerous and illegal scene without any professional oversight. The courts exonerated him, but I believe a proper drawing and quartering would have been an appropriate sentence.

When I went to the movies back in the day they did not edit that scene when I went to the movies that helicopter scene I saw at the movie theater made me cry and screamed to say hey I just three people got killed in a helicopter scene and people in the movie theater screaming and crying because I could not believe what they saw. It was very

Alec Baldwin just killed a woman and injured a man on a movie set. The man's condition is unknown. Some things never change. I bet he gets a slap on the rist, just like Landis.

Landis was negligent at best when ignoring the hesitation of the helicopter pilot yet alone for bypassing union rules in regard to the children. Absolutely awful and dereliction of duty. He should have been fired on the spot and prosecuted with a higher charge than manslaughter.

40 years ago tonight. And Landis still makes jokes about getting away with murdering three fellow human beings (two of them Little Children) and then intruding on all three funerals. By any sense of objectivity, John Landis is an EVIL human being. Absolutely DISGUSTING

Somehow, I'm watching this again after watching the Boeing documentary on Netflix. Really tragic and kinda the same story. Rich people concerned about profits, drag the victims families, then spend some money so they can get back to their lives. Despicable
reply

Yeah they killed their children, but somehow it matters whether or not the parents knew there would be explosions and a helicopter. Dude who cares. Landis was responsible for forcing the unsafe conditions. He should have faced jail time.
reply

Totally preventable and should never have happened. And Landis should have gone to jail. They broke laws and regulations. So the laws and regulations were tightened and will probably be broken again; because someone got off lightly.
reply

A stunt double should have been used. Why expose your actors to such ridiculous levels of danger? It would still be a tragedy, but stunt doubles are highly trained to face risky situations and are aware of the danger.
reply

If Landis two children (who were toddlers during the trial) had been acting in some other film and were killed under these conditions, Landis would have done everything humanly possible to put the director in jail for murder.
reply

The fact that John Landis specified that The incident, which I think about every day, has ruined my career, and it may never recover says more than enough about how guilty he feels for murdering two children
reply

Prick should be strung up by his sack and have them cut from his body. He knew the dangers. New he was breaking the rules and yet still went along with it. He should pay every day for his crime
reply

The Twilight Zone was ground breaking and was brilliantly done. I watched it when as a child when it debuted. It's very sad that the Twilight Zone name was tarnished out of negligence by Landis.
