In addition to Dale Earnhardt's death, 2001 was also infamous in the racing world for two things that happened in CART. The first was the last minute cancellation of the race at Texas Motor Speedway in April (which would have been the fastest auto race of all time) due to drivers fearing they would black out behind the wheel due to the excessive G forces that were caused by high speeds of which many drivers went over 240 mph during qualifying. Even racing just 1-2 laps around Texas Motor Speedway was enough to cause the blackout effect. To make this even worse, that same weekend, Driven a movie based on CART starring Sylvester Stallone & Burt Reynolds premiered in theaters to negative reviews by critics. The combination of both of these events was a PR nightmare for CART. Then in September about a week after 9/11, Alex Zanardi one of the series most popular drivers was nearly killed in a violent wreck during a race in Germany. This wreck resulted in Zanardi having both of his legs amputated. However despite this Zanardi would return to racing both in cars & as a paracyclist & in 2012 & 2016 he won medals at the Paraolympics. 2001 would mark the beginning of the end for CART & it went bankrupt 2 years later (though its remnants in Champ Car would still exist until 2008 where it merged with the rival Indy Racing League to form the current Indycar series.

I'd been following his career since the early 90s, he was a menace, and, on the FBI's, most wanted list, but no one seemed really worried about a guy way over there. The morning of 09/11, my co-worker pulled me over to her computer in time to see the second plane hit the tower and my first words were, oh so he was serious this time huh. My co-workers looked me like I was crazy, when I began to explain who Bin Laden was and how he'd been trying to attack us overseas and stuff. It's not that I'm proud I figured who did it immediately, it's just how inevitable it felt, and I was a 19 year old nobody with no special knowledge.

George W Bush, until we win America hasn't won a war since WW2 & even tho many Americans are taught they beat both the Japanese & Nazi's single handedly, WW2 was a joint win with all allied nations of that time. The US love nothing more than to illegally invade countries ar will, take over & start a war but then they back out of that war, tail between their legs not being able to win that or any war after WW2 even tho they'll tell the world that they're a country not to go to war against as they're so brutal. i don't think China are shaking in those boots, instead Prezzo Xi is sitting back laughing at two idiots running the US. With Biden that falls off a bike that's not in motion as well as he doesn't know how to walk up stairs along with a cackling hyena that speaks like it's something important she has to say but instead does famous Meghan Markle word salad instead

I was 16 in 2001 man what a time to be alive, if you are to young to have grown up in the early to mid 00s you missed out. Everything was new, Everything was unpredictable. Especially in video games, we went from 16 to 32 bits so fast, I was obsessed. I had EGM magazine subscriptions, I begged my dad for a new computer (thankfully he was a computer consultant and technician and a super nerd) and it felt like every month some new game or sneak peak into the future of video games was coming. The hype train for the PS2 was full steam ahead! I'm so nostalgic for those times.
Now I'm 39 and gaming isn't nearly as exciting, it's so corporatized and soulless and predictable, no more passion, no more art, it's just post launch DLC and season passes and live service games. I still play video games, but now I'm jaded and weary of it. The past is a distant land.

In 2001 I was seven, I remember 911 and the day after because we had planned a trip to Disneyland with my family. I’m from Washington state and we had rented a car from the airport. To drive down to California. I was born blind and had several surgeries, including three cornea transplants, and no one knew if the vision I had regained would last so my family wanted to make sure I got to see Disneyland. It was so weird being in LA with no airplanes flying overhead and I am very happy. I did get to see Disneyland because I did lose my vision completely by the end of the year.

I didn't know what the World Trade was but by the end of the day I had spent the entire day on CNN (back when we could trust them. People are right when they say there's pre 9-11 world and a post 9-11 world and if you weren't alive or were a small child you can't understand what we mean. The world was much much more relaxed and carefree. A noticeable amount.

Earnhardt crashed in the final turn of the last lap. he was running 3rd. he owned the 2 cars ahead of him, 1 was dale jr. Dale Sr was trying to protect them from the rest of the field. he was known as possibly the most aggressive driver ever. always going balls to the wall & doing whatever it took to win. that was the 1st time anyone seen him NOT drive that way. & the last. he was NASCAR. while unbelievably tragic, his death saved the lives of every driver since

I had a night terror the night of 9/11. I was 14. My dad found me in my windowsill with my face pressed against the burglar bars, as if i was trying to get out. I served a brief tour in Iraq in '06. That day changed my life.

2001, I was going from the 5th grade to the 6th grade and remember many of my classmates talking frantically about 9/11. I didn’t know what happened until I got home and was horrified.
