Saturday Night Live has never been afraid to tell controversial jokes about pop culture, politics, or really anything; however, there have been times throughout the show's nearly 50 seasons when some of those sketches or punchlines landed flat. Sometimes, something on the show would be so offensive, thousands of viewers would send in complaints. To read more about the biggest SNL Controversies over the years, go here:

Strange how everyone tried to cancel Jimmy Fallon for doing blackface, but said nothing about Billy Crystal, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Darrell Hammond, Jan Hooks, Mary Gross, Victoria Jackson, Joe Piscopo, Terry Sweeney, and countless others on the show for portraying different races. Goes to show you how it’s not really about making social change, but rather targeting celebrities that people don’t like.

I feel like Ashlee Simpson was an early victim of misguided cancel culture. Yes, it was wrong of her to lie, but I understand she was young, panicked & was pushed not to cancel because SNL is a huge deal. At least she used her own voice & has tried to make up for it. People threw her to the wolves & we’ve seen way worst.

As far as the FEAR incident goes, Lee Ving (singer) didn't yell New York Sucks, it was a member of the FEAR crowd who was the singer of a band. It was either Minor Threat or Negative Approach's singer, maybe both.

Dan Crenshaw has made a 2nd career out of rolling around in his party’s filth, considering what he and his like say about lgbtq people, immigrants, and so forth he’s awfully precious, isn’t he

These controversies is why SNL sucks today. Kanye west can support Trump. Who cares You cant make comedy and oppress free speech at the same time. Impossible, they lost it.

You missed the sketch with Wilt Chamberlain about him sleeping with 20000 women, but then again, it's absolutely impossible to find anything but the transcript.

In a few years, Weird History will be doing a video on the controversy that stemmed from trying to have someone other than OG narrator doing their videos.

I was at the Orange Bowl that year when Ashley Simpson came out. The crowd was ruthless lol. Great memory. even though OU got the crap beat out of them

SNL used to push boundaries and have real comedy, but now they just spew whatever their overlords tell them to

If I would have seen Sinead ripping up that picture live, I would have been like Hell yeah, screw religion and clapped alone.
