What If a Gamma-Ray Burst Hits the Earth?

What if we told you that supernovas aren't the brightest events in the Universe? Gamma-ray bursts are. They shine hundreds of times brighter and only last for several minutes at most. But even a second would be enough for them to mess up all complex life on the planet

It amazes me the way most people especially those who make videos like this still believe the universe is billions of years old because any event or events that happened in the non repeatable past are only as good as the records we have of them and we can never be 100% sure they are accurate so whether the universe is old or young it has to be taken on faith and anything that has to be taken on faith is not science even if you believe it is

Moving the earth out of the red supergiant danger zone better yet find a way to do interdimensional travel to a dimension where the laws of thermodynamics do not apply so that way we wouldn't have to go to a struggle with decreasing entropy, but I and/or any of us would have to find a way to cure aging as well as convert us into energy beings.

I feel like numbers are picked out of a hat at random to decide what distances to use. A couple thousand light years? A little problem. A couple hundred light years? Big problem. Anywhere in our galaxy? Instant death. Or did we change how counting works and 500 is now a bigger number than every number that used to be bigger than 500?

So now it's a Gama-Ray burst. Funny how this is in the news saying this burst of light was the brightest EVER, yet I never saw it, nor did my wife or anyone else we know. What does this tell you? Tells me to vote accordingly to clean out the bad, and cheer in the good!

A super nova with gamma rays just bursted as a one-in-a-lifetime event via NASA of 2. 4 billions light years away in 2022. And its said to be going at a very very very very very fast rate. but i dont know if the gamma rays are in our direction. God willing its not. -

u started off saying 3000ly then 500ly, then said if a GRB from anywhere in our galaxy hit us we'd be toast. You do know that the milky way galaxy. our galaxy is like 100, 000 light years in diameter right. I don't think you do

I will fire a gamma ray burst to the antichrist the dragon and the beast my worst enemies will be struck as well I will verbally command the universe to unleash a gamma ray rapid like it was a cobray

This is why Anime Authors Shouldnt use this kinda thing When they clearly don't know this kind of things can actually burst the hell out of their surroundings even with their Radiation only.

If it-s really far away, then nothing would happen on Earth.
If it-s close enough and hits the Earth, you-re dead within seconds.
That amount of radiation will kill you in seconds.

I'm a medical student. We had a lecture on radiology and I was intrigued by the immense power of gamma rays. Immediately searched the internet and found this video. Nicely explained -

One hit in 2009, and nobody really noticed, it caused a flash and whispy brown clouds the sun was harsher and the weather was chaotic for a few years later. This was a mild one.

Honestly, we don't have to worry about this. The way things are going, humanity is far more likely to destroy itself. Our greatest threat is ourselves.
reply

this could actually happen way sooner than a billion years. We need to stop destroying our ozones or we die exactly like this

Thare is only one thing that what will happen to the earth if it hit by a gamma ray burst. Thare will be a massive extension.

-Our sattelites would detect the light speed phenomenon and give us advance warning-
Im not sure about this line of thought

If all the theories about cosmos are wrong recently, then I-ll be the one who discovered GemaRays killed the dinosaurs.

You also get really strange and unhealthy nitrogen chemistry that kills off everything that uv rays don-t.
reply

You cant move the earth out of the danger zone because we cant see it coming. It travels at the speed of light.

The cobray gamma burst will fire one burst for each adversary no bunker mountain shield will protect them
