Is A. I. the future of education? Could human teachers one day be replaced by robots? How can A. I. enhance the educational experience? What are the pros and cons of A. I. in the classroom? We tackle this highly charged subject with two global thought leaders in A. I. and Inclusive Design this week on WID. Professor Joanna Bryson is one of the world's most sought out speakers on all things AI and human behaviour, and Jutta Treviranus is a highly respected voice in the responsible integration of technology and society. They both join Peter and Richard to discuss What If your teacher were A. I?

-What If Your Teacher Were AI? -
Simple, I would spend infinitely more time exploiting, cheating, confusing and breaking the AI than I would ever spend doing what it tried to tell me to do.
Sorry but AI educators will never work because AI will never become sentient enough to contend with humans determined to find ways to -outthink- it. There will always be people who will see the presence of a machine just like self check out lanes in stores and figure out ways to control it to your advantage.
Then again, as someone who is currently a lifetime student, the state of human based education, especially in the US right now, is absolutely deplorable and inexcusable. So its entirely possible that where the bar is so low right now that even with rampant exploitation, handing off teaching to machines might still end up being an improvement.

When I first saw your guest, my first thought was: OMG, Ellen Degeneres and Bill Gates had a kid! HA! HA! :P
But seriously, if I was still in school, and I had an A. I. as my teacher, I wouldn't like it. I'd rather deal with a REAL teacher than a computer, but that's just my opinion.
I also had a question:
I noticed that Richard Garner's hands looked exactly like my father's. He told me that his hands looked like that because he suffered a chemical burn back then he was in college. Did the same thing happen to Mr. Garner?

Nobody:
Absolutely nobody:

Me: -panic writes every video in my note book and how to possibly survive them-
YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU'RE GONNA NEED IT, Don't go asking -hey, can I check how to survive a meteor covered with acid that got rid of the atmosphere in your book again- since in s few months. you'll know what happens; )

In my opinion I think robot ai teachers would be a bad idea to implement in society not only will it shrink the job pool for teaching, but it would leave society unstable. Considering the fact that the human population will increase in the future if this ai teaching robot will get implemented in schools in the future it will leave a lot of teachers jobless.

Hello sir
Chirag Patadiya here
I'm from Gujarat, India
I have a 'What If' question
actually I have two of them
the first one is
- What if all the elements/materials on our Earth somehow becomes of same/equal Density? -
second is
- What If same thing happened to All over the universe? -

reply

WhatIf. I can see in your eyes that you're tyna comfort people and not make them panic. But the truth is that AI is fast replacing the need for teachers and classrooms. I understand that the transformation is rapid, but in a few years they'll be less to no classrooms.

I don't know what others say. But I will prefer teachers of flesh and blood. because It's not about teaching topics, it's about enthusiasing the aspirants to chase their visions. It's about friendly affection. And I dont think A. I will ever be able to do that.

it's too sad that you didn't include the part of your convo with Dr. Jutta Treviranus on this video. She got more realistic insights talking about this topic. Don't get me wrong but Dr. Joanna Bryson also has good points.

Sounds amazing, the teacher will no longer be able to brainwash our children to vote Liberal in order to save the teachers jobs and I won't have to Deprogram my kid when he gets home from school anymore.

What if all human on earth become sincere and start thinking about our planet earth and agree to help our planet earth so how much time it-ll take earth to get in perfect condition
reply

AI could teach us but school isn-t all abt academic knowledge for example a kid is being bullied the AI may not know how to respond to that and the proper discipline for it

School would become even more of a prison if AI was teaching us. Basically gonna be a job for us. Go to school, go home, repeat.
reply

I personally would not mind having AI teachers. As longest as they teach better I do not mind if it is AI or human teachers.

Bro I have a cool idea about your next episode, -what if everyone suddenly died and you were alone on the whole planet-
