What If Giant Sloths Didn't Go Extinct?

Sometimes it nice to just kick back and take it slow. Really slow. So what if evolution had the same mindset, and decided to take its time before getting rid of some prehistoric creatures? What if the giant sloth was still around? What would it get up to in the 21st century? Could modern-day humans even handle giant sloths? And what does this have to do with my guacamole?

I think you-re missing one use people could use Ground Sloths for. Battle.
Now don-t yell at me. I-m not a proponent of using animals in combat. I-m just pointing out a possible use. (And besides, it would be long outdated)
The Ground Sloth-s were enormous, especially by today-s standards. The largest, aptly named Megatherium, was 12 feet tall when standing on it-s hind legs and about 4 tons. No way an animal that size couldn-t pack a punch. It also had thick bones in it-s back that could form a sort of armor not unlike chainmail. But what would do the most damage was it-s claws which were 7 inches long.
Something tells me the conquest of South America would-ve probably happened a bit differently if South American tribes had these. (Not by much considering the Europeans still had steel, guns, and diseases, but it would be a somewhat closer war. Actually, that sounds like a pretty cool movie idea)

Despite the superficial similarities, the Two-Toed Sloths (genus Choloepus) and Three-Toed Sloths (genus Bradypus) are not in the same family, nor are they closely related, the similarities are actually an example of convergent evolution, they are placed within the monogeneric families Choloepodidae and Bradypodidae respectively, the former is actually part of the superfamily Mylodontoidea, which groups Choloepodidae (Two-Toed Sloths) with the extinct ground sloth families Nematheriidae, Scelidotheriidae, and Mylodontidae, while the latter is part of another superfamily known as Megatherioidea, which groups Bradypodidae (Three-Toed Sloths) with the extinct ground sloth families Nothrotheriidae, Megalonychidae, and Megatheriidae.

If small sloths aren-t extinct it-s very likely we didn-t kill off their big ancestors and didn-t they die at the end of the ice age? There were no Mile think ice sheets in South America. Not like North America. Their habitat is probably back. They could thrive again or maybe they-re just underground. We must bring this back. Nothing is more fascinating or interesting as these beasts to me. I want to look into the past and see them. Perhaps they make wonderful human companions. As big as they are they could probably keep up with a human walking pace or perhaps they weren-t that slow. Please bring them back.

It's a misconception that American megafauna and Australian megafauna went extinct due to climate change, we arrived in Australia and it's megafauna disappeared, we arrived in America and it's megafauna went extinct as well.

If you believe the natives and let's be real they know more about what's in the rainforest than anyone else and every time there's a mapinguari attack the natives always pick out the giant sloth as the mapinguari

Vegan buffet? There-s no such thing as vegan, that-s a made up new age word to describe weak people that will have colon cancer in 10 years. They were herbivores/vegetarians whatever. Not vegans -

People that were attacked by the mapinguari always point at the giant sloth as a creature that attacked them which would match because he would likely have long daggers like normal sloths

They were burrowing creatures. They very may well still exist in remote parts of Argentina. It-s quite possible they are very shy and spend most of not all of their time underground.

So if giant sloths were still here? Pathetic humans would hunt them and use them to their advantage? Doesn-t surprise me at all! Humanity at its finest!

If we started testing with genetic engineering to bring back old species, Jurassic Park is happening. 2nd amendment will then read -right to bear raptor arms-.

It's funny when the scientist try to say well the giant sloth is extinct in the native so well not in the rainforest because that's the creature we are seeing

Fun science update: at least one species of ground sloth (Mylodon) was omnivorous. Scientists recently discovered this from studying isotopes from preserved fur

I don't think its a good idea to bring exticnt animals back to life until all humanity is healthy and responsible enough to be kind to them.

One issue with this video: giant sloths are now believed to have been omnivores, IE: they ate meat too.
