What If We Built a City on Mars?

The next step in space exploration isn't generations away. It's happening right now. And our destination? That mysterious, desolate world next door, Mars. Imagine starting life over on that tiny red dot over 265 million km (16. 5 million mi) away. What would happen if we built a city on Mars? Would you have to live underground? How many people would you live with? And, what would the Martian economy look like? What does regolith have to do with living on Mars? How would radiation shielding be built?

idk i think it's either a bad idea or good idea. it's bad with the politician that only wants power. the good is that we could actually some human race there to give earth times to heal from the damage that we did. politician should not be priorities there but farming, engineering, medic, scientist is important for the survival of the place. the leader is someone that can actually lead and do what's best for the people. we also need to consider the safety of the surface. the solar is really a good idea. also find a way to make the gravity stable. for the water we could actually bring it from earth. i say all the services should be at least free like the food and medic. the houses or bunker should be provided. i say the food should be free is like we make eating schedule until we're actually stable then we can set up system and build the city wider. the medic service should always be free. its like this colonization to space is not that bad some of the human race needs to start the new era for us in space, and the rest of the human thats still in earth should work to healing the earth now its less in population it would help alot for the climate change and the surrounding. i hope WHAT IF can pin me bc i hope this idea helps alot.

What about proteins and poultry we cant just survive off water and plants and vegetables they must want everybody to become Vegan to live there smh and expect the Civilians to become billionaires overnight at that price all of us middle class broke people going to die if it was Earth final hours and we dont have enough for that SpaceX trip. This world shows that everything is money which should never be when it's the world survival on the line smh. Have to pay over 200k just to orbit around the earth atmosphere for about 20 mins smh. I could only imagine if 5-20 mins cost 200k how much would a lifetime cost to live in Space rent and Bill's will be sky high and how would they do currency in space.

8: 43 - if we do things right, we'd build a moneyless society on Mars. send habitants who will help each other because they want to. if we're going to seriously colonize Mars, we need to leave Earth's baggage on Earth.
in regards to landing a rocket on Mars and kicking up dust, why not just invest in humanity's first spaceport? it could be elevated above the ground enough to avoid causing a dust storm. and we can have the rocket dock in orbit and transfer goods to an aircraft capable of landing safely on said spaceport.
I like these kinds of videos just because it can make one think about what is possible and what the future may look like -

They'd have to build that city on rock 'n roll, because there's little else to use on Mars. Unless we have fusion power by then and Mars has some hidden caches of helium-3, we will be strapped for a ready source of power. Solar power is tenuous, and the water supply is good enough for an Antarctic-type research station but not an entire metroplex. True, the water might supply deuterium/tritium for that mythic fusion power, but that's not practical as of today. For now, the Moon is 100's of times more practical than distant Mars.

I don't believe humans will be able to establish a big colony on mars, simply because we don't have the resources on earth to establish life on a planet without easily accessible water and a source of food, it all has to be scientifically grown, we might not be able to establish a huge colony on mars, but we might be able to establish a small one. I believe the only solution for humans is to start looking for exo-planets near us if we hope to have a chance of surviving outside planet earth.

it will take too much of years to setup a colony on mars, after we successfully setup a small town on any planet, it isnt gonna be like move on tht planet within 20-30 years, for atleast 1 to 2 generations, there would only and only scientists on those planets exploring it, metals available on that planet, crops, life, etc. another century will be needed to build cities and setup communication systems over there. you guys wanna stay connected with the earthers right? :)

Hey I've got something for good results, maybe you'll find it interesting. Imagine you were sleeping in the middle of the night and you were having a nice or horrible dream, and at one random moment in the dream a rift shattered a hole into the dream you have and end up in a realm where the barriers between dream and reality are broken, and when y wake up the waking world is behaving like a lucid dream. So here's my -what if-. WHAT IF THE VERY REALITY IS LIKE A LUCID DREAM?
reply

We can-t have republicans up there. They are about themselves and not able to contribute to the colony. And being closed minded and not into new technology. This environment you need mandates to keep things moving smoothly. We don-t have time for conspiracy theories.

I just realised that if all those rover missions are 3d renders and Mars in fact has people on it and earth government decided to nuke several lives just because they Dont look like humans or can't be respected as worth negotiating with so.

You need a planet as close as 7 million miles from Earth AND would need to be AT LEAST 90 to 95% of earth size Before life could survive on the planet! ANY one dumb enough to go to mars will NEVER come back until judgment Day!

World needs to go vegan and in space only vegan lifestyle is sustainable. Meat industry is greatest evil today. Protein is overrated and too much is also bad, it shortens lifespan esecialy methione and saturated fats
reply

Hey, the planet's more CO2, so couldn't we just try a way to plant a tree that would reproduce by itself? Gradually, it would have our thing done. (Yeah I know it's gonna take years, or centuries)
reply

When Mars will habitable in future and human start living there then we will have interplanetary wars -. I prefer we need to learn to coexist with fellow humans first before exploring new worlds.

Earth is so beautiful. Instead of wasting money on building a depressing city on mars where people would have to live underground like rats. Lets take that money and repair are beautiful planet.
reply

I don't know, i support advancements but I feel like we should focus more on drilling astroids to get resources before trying to terraform a planet which is much bigger undertaking
reply

6: 20. this number is illogical. Did u just say 110 chicken breast and 660 carrots per person per day? Are you sure we are feeding a human and not some flying spaghetti monster?
reply

There would be no taxes and everyone would be living off the grid in prefabricated waste plastic homes. We would go check out the ruined alien cities on Mars.
reply

As for starting off 'sustainable' I'm pretty sure we'd actually want to pump out as much greenhouse gasses as we can on mars if we are gonna colonize it.
reply

What I find ludicrious is that we propose to build a self sustaining City and culture on another planet; yet we cant possibly do it here on Earth.

Buzz went on a secret maned space mission called Project Redsun. -Buzz does want to go back to Mars and I think he should! -.

The air is breathable. But I wouldn-t breathe it in because it-s not clean and there-s not enough water in the air. Dusty!

wht you need to pay for somethink? money must dissapeared make socialism comnity on red planet its sounds like SSSR a haxh

Is there a episode call what if everyone on earth just be kind. -
That is even harder than to build a city on Mars. -

I-ll be happy as long as we don-t bring Chinese, Muslims, Putin, Trump and Daniel Andrews, I-ll be sound as a pound

Chlorinated soil means batteries or HCl, even hydrogen but abundance may differ and might consume too much power
reply

It seems like a good idea. Maybe the entire planet could be turned into one giant city eventually, like Coruscant
reply

If there was liquid water on Mars, doesn't that mean that there is a high chance that there is also life on Mars?
reply

We-ll most likely have bio printed meat and farm using hydroponics. Livestock take up resources and space.
reply

NO! If colonists insist on animal proteins, meat can be grown from stem cells in labs. SImple comme bonjour!
reply

What if we built a city on Mars?
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal.
