Just four light-years away from Earth, sits the closest exoplanet that scientists have discovered. Proxima Centauri b. And it could be the first exoplanet where we find extraterrestrial life. Who better to check it out than our interstellar team member, Chase Made possible with the support of Ontario Creates: Support us on Patreon: Get the What if book: Join this channel to get access to perks: 00: 00 What If You Landed on Proxima Centauri-B 01: 18 Distance and Star System 02: 27 Landing on Proxima Centauri b 02: 56 Habitable Zone 03: 20 Red Dwarf Star 04: 10 Dangers of Proxima Centauri b 05: 05 Atmospheric Stripping 05: 50 Tidally Locked Planet 06: 56 Terminator Zone 08: 28 Transit Spectroscopy 09: 39 Chase Explores the Night Zone 10: 41 Lost in Darkness 11: 50 Chase Returns Interested in sponsoring our episodes or collaborating Email us: contactunderknown. com Our other channels: How to Survive: Aperture: T-shirts and merch: Newsletter: What If elsewhere: Discord: Whatsapp: Instagram: Twitter: Facebook: Produced by Underknown: #whatif #space #cosmos #nasa #exoplanets

Transit Spectroscopy is theoretical, at best. Guesswork. The same sort of stuff we used to do about the outer planets of our own system before Voyager proved us almost universally wrong.
The fact is. until we get actual eyes on it, it's all speculation.
For all we know, Proxima Centauri isn't even there, anymore.

While Chase has yet to survive an expedition, perhaps he can take solace in a 100% rate of failure lol. It does make you wonder why some systems have 1 planet, some have none while others are cluttered with multiples. Keep going Chase! With an infinity, there is a 100% chance you're gonna find someplace good.

it's unfortunate how despite making up nearly 80% of stars and having longer life spans than all types of stars combined, scientists believe that we're just as unlikely to discover life with red dwarf stars as we are around the extremely rare and quickly dying blue giant stars
reply

Red dwarfs might be much more active than sunlike stars of the same age, but there's evidence that the former flare mostly from much higher latitudes than the latter. This means that regardless of their intensity, their flares seldom hit any planet orbiting them.

Let me just tell him this he took
helmet off and made her lungs collapse that’s his fault he peed off and scared a creature then also his every one of his deaths even the Jupiter one was his fault every other one was not

These Chase in Space videos just keep better and better. I also enjoy his character development, which is something I didn't expect. He was more arrogant and airheaded at the beginning of the series than he is here.

What's the music used between 7: 59 & 8: 33, where Chase is building his base I like the melody it has and want to find it/have its full version also the background music for the Transit Spectroscopy chapter
reply

Love your videos and watch them as ongoing anime, hah
Chase's humor hilarious in this one, and the content is also great, too. Very educational and interesting (not boring like on my lessons, lol)

reply

I love how Chase is so used to dying, that when he knows it's about to happen, he just sounds mildly annoyed. same sort of noise you would make if your ice cream fell off its cone on a hot sunny day
reply

Could you make a video if video recommendations are possible what would happen if you were to shrink to the size of an atom Or smaller Want to see how Quantum theory would work on a human please
reply

What if Chase were to harness a habitable exoplanets energy only using the planets resources Rico gathers information while Chase acquires the resources needed to make a hydrogen Dune Buggy.
reply

How can you say exactly what’s going to happen when you’ve never been there None of us has so how do we really know what would really happen you people in your fake videos I swear
reply

how on earth this guy gets always resurrected. maybe an episode on who and how is responsible for resurrecting people on this planet as well i mean on process of reincarnation
reply

Rico: You're death count is well above average I mean giving that the avg amount is 1/person, I would have figured that could have been true - Chase probably 0: 42
reply

Well if the planet has a moon you can somewhat see a little more and with the stars gives out some light too but it would be very little light and still hard to see.
reply

Mars is not habitable nor do we have the technology or funds to terraform it. Proxa B has an outside chance of being habitable on part of the planet at least.
reply

Whats with the cringe redditor voice for the astronaut Every single movie, show, and game is inundated with that style of talking. Its so embarrassing.
reply

I was disappointed to find out I couldn't purchase my favourite phrase merch well that's a story for another what if
No shipping to Ontario, Canada

reply

also, can you travel to each planet in the trappist 1 system in search of life and/or a habitable planet that you can finally not die on
reply

Nice video but our sun wont explode after all. In the very distant future it will grow into a red giant and then shrink into a white dwarf.
