What if Columbus was Right about Geography?

What if Columbus was Right about Geography? William: Columbus is often mischaracterized. The circumstance of the earth had been known, more or less, for a fair while at this point. Now, Columbus did err on the lower side of that range of calculations, but the range wasn't actually that wide. The real issue was that he (and the majority of scholars at the time) thought that Asia extended much further east than it did. He set out with the goal of discovering a route to Asia yes, but he also was looking for undiscovered islands off its coast to serve as stopping points. They largely had the distances right as far as the voyage went, when Columbus made landfall he knew exactly how far away from Europe he was (as exact as anyone could at that time, but he thought the coast of Asia was much closer. He thought the islands he'd landed on were a couple hundred miles east of Zipangu, which is what the Europeans at the time called Japan.
I've gotten to the point where I usually don't bother correcting people on these misconceptions, but I have a fair amount of respect for you, so this is somewhat disappointing, and I also know you're likely to be willing to listen to the information. It's been a while, so I can't cite any sources, I just don't remember them, but 8 vaguely recall he was working off of a fairly commonly used map of the world at the time.

Interesting alternative theory
I wonder how would the Muslim nations that used to control the trade routes do in this scenario now that the new sea route will be discovered much much earlier by the Vikings Where they were in a quite better state than during the age of exploration and still got Alandalus ( Spain and Portugal )
I assume the Muslims of Alandalus would have better luck than the cursaders for being a bit more tolerant.
Assuming their success. The new trade would be a massive boost that might change the direction of the reconquesta.
On the other hand I think places like Egypt and persia would become much much poorer.
Maybe poor enough to not be able to destroy all cursaders states. So maybe we will still have them until the invitable rise of the ottomans
I don't think any thing the mongols would change because no invading power would care about the nomadic steppe. But I believe they will have a much difficult task now will more violent and alert china, japan and of course whatever neo christian / Muslim states in their path
Last thing. Now that their will not be a us. And assuming WW1 would happen the axis would have much higher chance of winning making place for your alternative ww1 senario to happen

Not following the logic here.
Why is Africa treated as if it'd be just a European colony when its new positioning opens up a lot more travel possibilities? , This is especially odd if most of the Atlantic and Pacific islands still exist in this world as depicted. The more ways around the Sahara land barrier, the more chances for exploration and trade for Central and Southern Africa.
How would a colonial China not be enough of a match for vikings, barbarians hordes, and crusaders? Hell, why would crusaders be sailing across the ocean to attack China in the first place when there are wealthy pagans still so close to their lands, since the Vikings got wealthy with Asian trade, pillaging, and colonization?
How are radical thinkers going to be staying in Europe to try to make it communist when there are still are lands for them to get kicked off? Hell, how do you get an idea like communism without rapid industrialization to setup the conditions needed to inspire the idea?
There are others, but I've ranted enough.

If you know anything about the Song Dynasty, You would know that they had one of the largest and most advanced armies ever. At their height they had over 1. 2 million fully equipped soldiers with steel weapons and some of the most advanced siege equipment in the world. The Song dynasty is by far the most powerful Chinese dynasty in all of history and definitely the most advanced country ever until the 19th century.
I think you need to catch up a little bit on your Chinese history there
Take this as constructive criticism. Not rage ranting.
Im a big fan of yours. And i love your content.

Africa would be more developed in this scenario because Central, southern and western Africans would be able to trade and exchange ideas with the Asians. The only reason why those regions were so behind technologically in our timeline it's because of their Geographic isolation and the fact that there climate did not support development prior to the Invention of vaccinations and antibiotics.
And maritime south south east Asian would look more like Madagascar because of all the mixing between the austronesian and Bantu peoples being so close to each other geographically.

the chinese or japanese or malaysians wouldve probably discovered that route already before columbus, also china would probably adopt a more friendly approach to technology and development (in otl they encouraged scholars to become government officials instead of becoming teachers, scientists and such, gunpowder and industry would probably be expanded upon and china would be the leading gun/industrial power. (in the year 1000 china was experiencing really rapid technology advancement and there were even oil wells and pipes used to melt salt

It's way too alternate to me. Like what do you mean remove half of the planet? You gotta go back 5 billion years back when Venus and Mars would suck more material therefore they become bigger while Earth - smaller. Maybe one of them actually becomes habitable but to the matter at hand - for Earth everything would change. Everything! Gravity, flora, fauna, the course of evolution, the cataclysms. It wouldnt even look like Earth, nor its life would be any reminiscent.

The premise of the video is incorrect. Most people, including Columbus knew the correct circumference, but they overestimated the size of Asia. Neither did he think he was in India when he reached the Carribbean - he knew he was in a new place and the natives were called Indians as Indies is a general term often used for Asia

A point about the Siberian myth is that, despite having a harsher climate and more rugged terrain, manchuria has a population of 46 million. Meaning theoretically the siberian coast could easily accomadate for upwards of 70 million inhabitants
