Three of the world's finest distance runners are about to attempt one of the greatest feats of athleticism in history: a sub two-hour marathon. To do it, the athletes will need to maintain an average pace of at least 13. 1 miles per hour. So, we timed how long WIRED staffers could run at that speed. Needless to say, we didn't last long. Here's why only a handful of people in the world could ever come close to a two-hour marathon

I find it interesting that measurements for both time and distance are pretty much random concepts made by humans. There's just something so psychologically powerful about round numbers in our measurement systems; I bet this feat would have stayed unbroken if the term -marathon- meant 30 miles or if -hour- meant 70 minutes.

I guess American runners are just too lazy. I run more than two hours straight during my morning jogging routines just for the fun of it. A professional runner should not have any problem beating that challenge. This video hurts my brain really bad.

Pretty sure the fore foot thing definitely isn-t a myth. It-s more of a thing for sprinters u need to have quick turn over if u want to be elite. When ur approaching human limits minute things like that matter.

Coolest part about the video is the slo mo showing varied strides and landings by pros. Instead of, always land on the forefront or the middle

The Usain bolt top speed of 28mph blew my mind. But for some reason that seems way less impressive than going 13mph for 2 HOURS! What?
