this technology is only few yrs away, not decades and it should have been already here now. people like to brag about human capabilities but they forget about the millions lives lost every year in car crashes. Don't expect humans to stop 1000 times out of 1000 at the traffic light, just make the car stop automatic and that's the end of that problem. we don't want elevators that might stop at a certain floor, we want elevators that stops there every time! every new system was fought in. it's not automation replacing humans the problem, it's the unequal distribution of wealth and the corporations behind this. it's always the root cause which is the sick economic system that we have

Things like this which take away jobs and make the income inequality and job security situation even more apparent, while being completely and entirely unavoidable due to the inevitable, onward march of -capitalist productivity-, will make it increasingly more apparent and necessary to force us to re-evaluate the underlying issues with our capitalist system that allow for income inequality to be such a massive issue in the first place. And then it'll be even easier to just replace all -jobs- and -work- with machines etc, and have humans spend their time and energy on this actually productive and beneficial to their individual and collective lives.

why this will never work? because truckers are smarter then the bosses of the company. yes truckers do it as a job to support themselves and a family but the number 1 reason why truckers do what they do is to see the country. its the only job anywhere in the world where you get paid to see the sights. if you are in an office job you see the sights from your home to work, if you work where you get to fly all you do is fly over everything and don't get to see anything. and a train engineer only gets to see the sights where the tracks are laid.

Wow. I know it's inevitable at this point but don't over sell it to yourself that truck driver are going to be glad they don't have to drive trucks any more and now they can finally -be creative-. I don't believe these same intelligent idiots that brought us global warming and Mutually Assured Destruction are really going to figure out a minimum basic wage either. Don't let them sell you BS as flowers and candy canes. AI and the exponential era of robotics is going to suck for most of us.

Hmm. instead of cameras feeding monitors in a panorama configuration, why not install a stereoscopic camera on a rotate and tilt head in the driver's seat of the truck that then feeds the remote operator the video via a VR headset? The headset being equipped with a head-tracking sensor then relays the operators head position back to the dummy head with the stereoscopic camera in the truck to mimic the gaze of the operator.

Who is going to gas it up and make sure it's safe. What about when an automated fleet ages one computer malfunction and that million dollar rig is going over a mountain ridge. The list goes on. I don't know any computer that functions perfectly. What about a cyber attack against our automated truck fleet too many variables if you count everything your better off with a human being in that seat. Espiacally a big rig. period.

The ignorance in this video and in the comments is gold, people are going to laugh so hard at this in 30 years, all the narrow minded views. I remember a cartoon of two horses laughing at a car that needed horses to pull it out of a mud pool it got stuck in, suggesting cars will never be able to do the jobs horses did, laughing all the way to the glue factory: -o

Trucks can-t shoot guns! Love it! Apple shelved it-s robot driver program. Believe the software challenges are decades away. Maybe the Long Beach to say Banning then Robot to buckeye. Then human again to Mesa delivery. Possible 2050 but what-s the point. KC yard to NYC Yard no way unless entire new road system 2050. Keep dream young people.

Most college gradates can't even pay back their student loans. A CDL was the best $5000 I ever spent. It has fueled my business and fed my family for the last 18 years. I don't feel the least bit threatened. Truck drivers aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Too many things to conquer that a computer can't begin to compensate for.

Autonomous rigs will probably trend toward smaller rigs. this due to the impact of not needing a driver. with that overhead cost removed a smaller rig for most shipping scenarios just makes more sense. the need for remote control drivers will be minimal and could be handled at the point of arrival by warehouse employees.
