It's a fun toy and a great way for 'concerned' rich people to waste their money but if you think you are going to fly a machine that by definition is bigger than a house to Mars to make concrete igloos then you are delusional. The future for Mars settlements after the initial (tent) stage is underground. Imagine an autonomic robot excavator that digs a container sized trench 4 meters deep, 3 meters wide and 15 meters long. You then fly a lightweight container to Mars with all the stuff in it and when it gets there you install it into the trench and the robot then covers it with martian dirt two meters thick except for the front door. Why? Shielding and thermal insulation. There's an awful lot more to a habitat than just the outer shell.

Hey, if y-all weren-t aware. NASA has a plan to try to have some people live on the moon. There-s a project in the making and plans have been confirmed through 2024 I believe (and maybe a bit further. The moon has some sort of frozen water. things (can-t remember term) so yeah. Resources. Not sure how much of that Mars has. But the moon is closer so it-d be easier to travel back and forth. So staying in space will allow for traveling farther into space without paying so much since supplies will already be on the moon. If that makes sense lol. Take astronomy yourself or do some research into it--

1. If this ends up being the finial shape of Mars houses please sell these as candle holders.
2. During the construction of these house how would the material fair, with the dust storms? if the material is liquefied would dust make it harder for the next layer to bind to the previous? Kind like flour and dough?
3. Also, what about the gravity difference between Earth and Mars, would it make 3D printing easier? would there be enough gravity to make both layers bind to each other sufficiently?

A prototype for NASA, that's like building a prototype of a car for Hershey. NASA ain't going to Mars bub, NASA is dead, they should stick to probes. See - SLS.
Private industry is going to Mars. Governments suck, they should be as small as possible while providing basic services. Private industry does almost all the cool stuff, the space race was a weird outlier that will never happen again.

8: 33 The reason that 3d printers didn't -take off- 10 years ago is that's when the patents expired and regular people could get their hands on them. Now is the time when they're cheap enough that regular people can tinker with them. The sub $200 price point with decent quality has really expanded the market and community.

Amazing! The rectangular Windows with sharp corners is a point of pressure failure. Aeroplanes in the old days had rectangular Windows until pressure fatigue cracks at window corners caused a number of crashes. I suggest Windows with rounded corners to avoid this same problem.

honestly this is not even an idea. games do this for many years terra isn't something unknown i find it weird this guy claims it as his idea is just wrong and typically human behaviour. disgusting!

Isn't something like printing with hyperabode or superadobe more reasonable on mars? This thing seems to need some major water source and it's kinda sketchy that raw material just sets up perfectly.

3d printing a structure is a good idea, but it would have to be under ground to help block the radiation. You wouldn't be living on the surface in something like that. The walls are way too thin

But if it takes months to print that structure on Mars, could a sand storm occurs in that period of time and fill the half printed house with sand making the completion impossible?
