Perhaps, a drone could be developed to safely collect ambergris. The big reason why ambergris is banned is because of harming the whale. When that factor is removed, the product becomes ethical.

Other scientists using drones have also said that since drones are quieter, they can better observe not just whales, but various other animals too.
