NASA Astronaut Breaks Down 16 Space Scenes From Film & TV

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
NASA astronaut Nicole Stott returns to examine more scenes depicting space from movies and television. Do space stations really have onboard AI like in 2001: A Space Odyssey? Do blackout periods like the one shown in Apollo 13 really happen on spaceflights? Would a robot like WALL-E survive in space?

She is much kinder to these movies than Chris Hadfield lol. I always find it so interesting to learn astronauts' opinions on space related movies and stuff and what they think the future of space travel will entail. It's just a shame that I nor anyone today will be alive to explore the galaxy, provided humans don't blow ourselves up of course or an asteroid doesn't wipe us out.

There is air on Mars and it is breathable. The air on Mars is bit dusty or thick. I wouldn't breathe it in because there in not enough water in it and the air is not clean. That's because there are not enough plants, water and ice to help clear the air of dust. The air would be just a bit cleaner at the poles.

Quick note about Contact, she wasn't wearing a full suit because nothing in the alien message specifications called for any sort of special apparatus to be worn by the pilot. Even the chair wasn't in the design, so they put in minimal protections.

But the Interstellar part wasn't a delay of the video. It was instantaneous. The movie took care showing that. She aged because he had traveled to Jupiter and that much time had passed on earth. He received the message as soon as she sent it.

Honest question. In the landing scene of ''Space Cowboys'' You say the Commander would be piloting the space shuttle, not the pilot. However you did not say why?

Is this just protocol? Is there a reason the pilot does not pilot? :)

one of the reasons, the launch in -Space Cowboys- was realistic is due to the fact that the lady seen doing the countdown is Lisa Malone who was actually the PAO in the LCC and did that during the late 1980s and 1990s for real

Joey! Kickin' the homerun! What's great is that she doesn't have to answer to anyone. Like if someone said smugly 'you don't kick a homerun, ' she could just say 'yeah, i walked in space, like, twice, so. .. '

I can't believe she actually seems to think an asteroid belt would be anything like movies depict them. They're still largely empty space, there's no needing to constantly dodge rocks, that's absurd.

-God doesn't build in straight lines-. I don't believe in a god but the fibonacci sequence might like a word to say about that. As well as the bilateral symmetry that almost every animal shares.

6: 42 im laughing how miserably Michael Bay directed this movie. His movies are aways commercial and just entertainment, don't even think about expecting a logic and absence of plot holes.
