Its call adaptation not evolution. The universe is a dynamic environment and the life that inhabits it, adapts to the changing landscape. There is nothing new here. Climates Change, mostly due to orbital mechanics, solar output variations and the effects of plate tectonics. That is science not some religious mumbo jumbo about humans and their campfires. Mass extinctions are normal and expected. Sea level rising and lowering ( it was much higher in the past and much lower) normal and expected. Long after we are fossilized bones, the earth will continue ice age after ice age. The seas will rise, the seas will recede. We will not be remembered and one day, the sun will expand and burn the earth to a cinder or destroy it in a great nova's fireball. all normal and expected. It is hubris to believe man can dictate to the universe what it must do.

Really? i predictated this a while back. The insects will become bigger soon, doubt they want too but if the ressources become scarce animals become more dangerous. Thats just logic. As seen in bees or not? The big killer bees. Are a direct result of habitat loss and a early glyphosat response probably.
And its still survival of the biggest symbiosis. Competition is a subset of cooperation. Nash proofed this decades ago. Applied math shouldnt be that hard to understand.

What he witnessed is -adaptation- not -evolution-. Plus it could change back just as quickly. -If- the next event -would- cause lizards with smaller feet to survive then it would be going backwards. In other words, it's NOT constantly moving -forward- and it's NOT evolving. It is just continually adapting to the current environment. NOT changing into a different species.

Are the anole lizards actually considered -evolved-, tho? They didn't develop shorter legs and bigger pads as a result of the hurricanes, it's just that the survivors already had those features. Generations down the line, yes, that is an evolution, those features will be dominant and continue. but in this specific stage, is it a real evolution?

Not sure I'm following this. I think this is only a partial picture. So with the lizards, the wind blew away the longer legged ones, left the shorter legged ones, and this is evolution in action? Study the lizard population again in 10 or 20 or 50 years, and see what is happening with leg or toe size.

i know none were harmed, but it still made me so sad seeing those lizards fighting so hard to stay on the stick and then eventually flying away: ( im a scientist and understand the importance of experiments like that, i just wish there were ways to research things like this without stressing animals out

Love the optimism at the end!
Such doom and gloom normally (I-m guilty of excessive pragmatism myself) but the truth is we CAN shift things, if we don-t accept that change is up to each of us individually we are both destined to fail and relegated to a victim narrative, we relinquish all control.

This video was so interesting! While it-s sad that a lot of animals are perishing due to climate change, it-s cool to know some are adapting. That being said, just because some are adapting, doesn-t mean all will. That-s why we can-t ignore climate change and must make a difference!

I worry about climate change and try to change my behaviour. give advice to others but i am surrounded by people who do not seem to care. It stresses me out so much. how could you not care? This planet is wonderful, we can be wonderful too if only we changed our ways.

Was these any any genetic change for this adaptation to carry on to the next generation? I ask this because we have seen humans go to a Gym and shape their muscles and tone them the way they prefer but their children do not get those features.
