The fact that Biology was able to create Eyes At All, Breaks my Brain. Yes the Lens is amazing BUT the fact biology was able to create mechanisms that react to photons & transfer data that the brain can interpret into visual images I think Bioengineering is one of the coolest niches of scientific advancements. There is so much potential there. I hope they focus more on improving currently living creatures & introducing beneficial adaptations, the list of beneficial things we could learn about is seemingly limitless.

7: 53 Jumping spiders (Salticidae) have amazing vision (for spiders. Not only do they see clear color images, but they can also see ultraviolet and polarized light.
Some wolf spiders (Lycosidae) have been observed to use light polarization to navigate.
Most other spiders have limited vision. They rely more on tactile and chemical cues. (Orbweavers can essentially hear through their webs)

9: 26. I think this is a bit misleading as an image, the scales are all off and you miss the key detail of how our Green cones detection is very close to our Red (in terms of frequency. The fact that red and green cones are soo close shows the evolution of it all. etc.

Kind of surprised you didn't mention how prey mammals eyes, the horizontal type, seen in goats and the like turn and stay horizontal even when bending down to eat grass. allowing them to continue to scan for danger. Love the information in this video.

fantastic - it would be fine you could do a video in more depth about a single group, with examples of what they can see - how they perceive what they see, is of course much harder to guess - who know how the world looks to an eagle or a bumble bee.

I had an accident when I was in 3rd grade that cut the cornea of my right eye open and destroyed a chunk off my iris and made my pupil stretch and move to the bottom left of the iris instead on the center now I look like I have a goat eye

He forgot to mention that jumping spiders have tube-shaped eyeballs which give them supreme depth perception but cannot rotate in the socket therefore the spiders must turn their whole head to see in a given direction like owls

In Felids the vertical slit is only found on the smaller ones. Its better for spotting prey in grasses. The larger ones have pretty much the same eyesight as we humans have if you added the reflective membrane for night sight.

0: 06 that’s a lie. A misrepresentation. Most ambush predators have circular pupils. But ambush predators that live/ stay close to the ground have slit pupils; like cats, crocodiles or snakes. I expected better

Next time can you fix the colour grading / brightness etc The set is way too bright, the highlights are too light which makes it hard to actually see what he is pointing at when using the replica of the human eye.

more than one for a great extension of Richard Dawkins explanation of why the eye isn't so miraculous. Oh, and that the human (primate) eye is really good but not best in class for any one thing.

Dear voiceover guy: Shrimp and spiders are arthropods. He just did Shrimp and then you said now let’s look at some arthropod eyes like he hasn’t just done two.

There's also the old theory that humans have such a prominent sclera because we use our eyes to communicate more, so the position of the iris needs a clearer backdrop

The Squid Eyes. Test them using Multi-Color LEDs, code them so they replicate natural occurring patterns seen being displayed by Squids and see what response you get.

Perception has always fascinated me. To know what it's like to see far like an eagle, see heat in infrared like a snake, catching ultraviolet like bee. Cool stuff

I can't believe they skipped over tuataras well talking about reptiles vision, most reptiles have third eyes and they skipped over that.
