Find Rob Greenfield on his YouTube channel and on Facebook or robjgreenfield on Instagram! Jay: I agree with him when he says that we should be thinking realistically and even introspectively because do the material things make you happy? is a sentence that we should all ask ourselves several times in different stages of our lives. But, I think 50 items and under is too drastic. I also think all of his money on his person and not having health insurance is TOO scary for me because my family always has something wrong with them medically (seizures, cancer, high blood pressure, traumatic brain injury, etc. Hes slightly insane to do this but hes also enlightened to a point because hes looking inside of himself to find his happiness.
Edit: I personally believe that material objects and money dont MAKE you happy but it helps you get there. It provides opportunities that you wouldnt get if you didnt have a certain material object or money.

I had been downsizing my life and working on a garden. I was feeling really satisfied. Then I got an infection in my gum from a cracked tooth, so I switched to watching a lot of Pacific Crest Trail hiking videos, and I became frustrated and depressed, because there is no way I can save 6, 000-8, 000 for this adventure. I just saw how quickly I switched from a mindset of plenty back to wanting. Simplicity is my goal. I forgot that for a week. Thank you for all the encouraging videos. Your example has been an inspiration to me.

Thinking that one man can change the word it's a capitalist ideal. What we need are changes in politics that can regulate big corporations that are harmful to the earth: oil, deforesting, cloth manufacturers. I'm not saying that what he's doing is wrong, I mean, I tend to have a plant based diet and eliminate all the plastic that I could. What I'm saying is that this little changes, even if they look extremely drastic, will not have large repercussions in the climate change. Sorry for my broken English

Bro, i also have drastically decreased buying non food items. Now basically using what i had already bought. The things produced used alot of slavery. Now since i have drastically reduced consumption, and am planting food seeds and uprooting poisonous plants on public land, my financial expenditure decreased greatly to having attained financial freedom given the money in my bank now.

Im really surprised at the amount of hate and mockery Im seeing in response to this vid. It's like people are scared he's trying to take their stuff away instead of being inspired by someone trying to show us stuff isnt as important as we think. He even says he doesnt think his lifestyle would work for everyone. I dont know if everyone is just that jaded or what's going on.

I can imagine how great this makes him feel. I used to do this when i was travelling in europe. To save on flight cost, all that I need fits into a cabin size bag. I only have 3 sets of clothes, use and wash and repeat. I was surprised that I could live on only those stuff in my small bag for 2 months. I feel good about it.

Good for him but ultimately there is no ethical consumption under capitalism and its important to stay politically aware and active to make distinct change. Corporations are causing the environmental crisis and we need to elect politicians that will keep them in check.

Great Video, Rob!
When I was a child in the 60s, I had a book entitled Alberic the Wise, illustrated by Domenico Gnoli ( you must have the Gnoli illustrations to get the vibe. You are for me like that childhood character come to life. Cheers!

Cannot help wondering if a lot more folks would be happier with a nomadic way of life. Not being stuck in the same place, job and traveling. Oh well, guess we'll never know.
