I think that in 5 minutes the story was a wonderful science fiction thriller in a alien environment where the astronaut has to be prepared to defend herself. Detention slowly increased to the damois where she pulls her pistol ray gun on the alien terror monster and we're left at the cliffhanger. For the language sounds like it's from Eastern Europe or Yugoslavia Serbian accent I'm not exactly sure put the young ones who don't recognize that are can't understand it after realize that there's several hundred countries in the world and there's bright people in all of them and this is a bright young filmmaker impact of a tremendous amount of thriller tension in the just 5 minutes will planned out CGI state-of-the-art and give it a 10 out of 10. There's a lot of work put into all parts of this film the most critical is the story line the rise intention until just before the final shot. My background is PhD in computer science specializing in computer graphics and I'm now retired from working.

Oh & does she realize its a team member & not shoot or miss Had to ask That is the missing piece not knowing THAT rather than knowing THAT
Which makes the next clip or full movie to go in the same direction retaliation
o R
you have a way different script & why where you cut us off is so dam frustrating

So what happens shoot or realization or something way off my theater of options!

Shakespear it ain't, but it was not a waste of my time. I have read and watched SciFi for 60 years. Some of the previous comments spring from a kind of naivete about story telling. It is a slice of a larger story and has to suffer because there are so many unanswered questions. And every character in a story is not fully developed in less that 10 minutes. Geeze! Take a minute to watch someone you do not know walking down a street, then craft a story from what you could observe for a couple minutes. Is that a spy or a doctor or a Martian you saw or someone's drunken cousin You have to put together a coherent tale that will take 7 minutes to tell or illustrate. exceedingly hard!

First off, why make the character a white redhead when you're using a VA with a thick black accent, it feels jarring especially in the combination with the awkward lipsync, a black protagonist would work just as good and would fit the VA better.
Secondly, the animations are way too slow, it feels like amateur stop-action trying to get away with as little frames as possible, it just looks bad, the slowed down scene at the end makes it even worse.
Third, there is no story, there is no action, there is no humor, having none of these the short lacks any substance, it's just a tech demo.

From the first half, this is basically an Alien clone. I think the animation was phenomenal and was glad the alien was different. However, the voice acting was rough and I was expecting more from her when she initially heard the alien sound. It looks like she just froze and got knocked out of the way. No bite from the monster or even a Perry out of the way from the soldier. I stopped watching at that point. I'm going to finish watching it another day and then I'll edit my response if my opinion about the whole thing changes.

I wanted to like this, I love a good alien chase movie but the story was quite rudimentary to the point that if it wasn’t existing on prior tropes; you wouldn’t know what was going on. Acting was fine she just didn’t have much to go on. Visually looked great till the figures had to move. Odd slow but jerky movements. Maybe because of low gravity. Of course the no helmet in a biohazard situation was a poor oversight. I could see this reworked and extended slightly with a little backstory about her connection with dead crew.
reply

Overall, it's not bad. Certainly not one of the best DUSTs I've seen, but probably not the worst either. It looks like a cutscene from a Mass Effect game or something. The real drawback is the voice-acting, or rather a combination of less than professional actors and really poor recording equipment/mixing. The audio doesn't really match with the visuals and seems almost detached from the film. The alien was really cool looking, though, and I'd like to see more with it.

Good CGI, poor story. Tough woman gets scared and runs away, then tough again I don't think so. She could have drawn her weapon the moment she saw the bio weapon. It would have been better for her to be scared or startled or shocked (or all the above) to see such a thing, but also drawn her weapon. This is my opinion, and I'm sure other people have different thoughts on this. I do think the CGI was pretty good; though the facial animation could have been better.

A beautiful example of CGI animation, but as for the actual story itself, well. .. not much originality there. Maybe a bit more backstory development would help. Clearly a lot of good production work went into this. Technical talent of that caliber could be combined with more unique, refined story content, and would make for a truly spectacular production. There is potential here, more focus on story and script is where this wants to go.

So excited to finally have the short movie going live! I really hope you all enjoy watching it, a lot of dedication and love went into this project.
Let me know which part is your favorite in the comments bellow! I personally like the first appearance of the alien and how the sound lifts the moment up.
Thanks to all the members involved in this production and to the Dust team for getting involved!

The protagonist removed her biohazard gear after entering a biohazard area, did the cliche dead friend discovery, the predator alien inexplicably announced itself, she dropped her gun without shooting, the predator slowly followed without attacking so that she could close a hatch, we learn that her name is Ripley, then the alien appeared inside the locked room, but she still didn't shoot it. Ends.

Wow! I especially liked the. Oh, wait! I hated it! Why all the time, money and effort for ambiguity All these sci fi, s are the same, ambiguous! You see those spaceships in star trek Do you have a car Is it nice How come ive never seen a rich kid driving his own spacecraft and partying with his buds Ive never even seen a rich old guy in a personal craft. Make that movie.

Here are a few snippets of what I heard, which make no sense, that makes it clear why I need subtitles:
0: 43 Ada-mation Control
1: 38 I rid/read the biological facility of this station.
1: 47 I need a full report of the situation. Bonsoir (OR go an stir, copy
1: 52 Specimen from one of the bess alix 3 is missing. I will leave to a power malfunction.

This is the part of sifi story's I never understand. They have had some kind of biological or Alien incursion. Yet they send soft fleshy humans to investigate and we all know what happens. Why aren't they using advanced robotic probs first to reconnoiter the place first that would save a hole lote of Hart ake. But hay it's still a good story though.
reply

I rarely leave negative comments as I applaud anyone, including this filmmaker, who puts time and energy into creative projects.
That being said, this was blatantly derivative of the Alien series. The look of the xenomorphs was beyond similar, and the protagonist's last name was Ripley. Big points lost for plagerism.

reply

I wish movies and such would give predatory creatures more natural like behavior. Predators don’t just walk in to growl or shout in bloodlust. That would just alert all potential prey to flee or prepare for self defence better. Silent predator would be so refreshing to see imho but maybe that’s just me lol

Dark scene Flash-light in Sci-Fi always turn me down.
ps. I know movie is for mass but come on a night vision capability is here already let alone in the far distance future. At this rate we could have a night vision contact Lense in 2050 or perhaps a genetic engineering for us to see in the dark.

reply

Why would you send a one person recon unit without any backup or vacuum helmet to prevent potential exposure to xenobiological materials This short could have applied a little more logic and reason. The CGI and animation is beautiful but the story is lacking.
reply

OK kidz. wanna play a counting game Can you count how many commenters on here are gonna be asking that this will be continued as a series or a movie made. OK, then. Ready. Start counting boys and girls.
Prizes to be awarded at a later date.

This short proves that even the most amazing CGI cannot replace good acting. And even the most amazingly produced cliches cannot replace original storytelling. And dialog that's understandable in at least one language (or subtitles) would be good.
reply

The CGI is great but the dialogue needs another component and a rewrite. One thing i liked about Dark Nebula the short story reminds me of Mass Effect i guess you’ve modelled and adopted similar feel to the game Good on you.
reply

So detailed, nearly hyper realistically animated human. until she moves. The creature, the setting, the plot is a harrowing showcase of complete lack of imagination. I wish I haven’t seen it, really
reply

Great, creepy monster thing.
Why does every movie have the things roar before attacking Watch a tiger attack a deer. (Darn, missed again. Probably scared it off when I roared)

reply

Lots of nods to the Alien franchise. Kind of tired of seeing the same tropes and storylines. Animation is fairly solid but not sure how she managed to escape the first time.
reply

Nicely done but I wouldn't exactly call it original. Alien and many others of the similar storyline. Holefully, this was but a Trailer, a teaser of things to come. Good work!
reply

This is the same exact plot as Phaedra, which was posted on DUST one month prior, same story, same graphics, same dead, unemotional facial expressions.
reply

After having watched many of these, I've come to the conclusion they're all severely lacking in everything except special effects.
reply

Containment outbreak and no helmet. and talk about cocky. she's going to fight the threat by being stunning and brave. this was lame
reply

Great, exciting, and so well done. however, it is difficult to enjoy when there are no caption. Not everyone can hear the dialog.
reply

Quite Interesting. .. Let's Hope The Second Installment, Or The Continuation Of Will Be As Good, And Hopefully Better. .. :-o
reply

I’m surprised you can have such bad acting with CGI. Probably one of the first Dust shorts I didn’t like at all.
reply

couldn't understand the speaking parts. Too soft, undefined. What good is it when you don't know what they are saying
reply

Well, that sucked! Unoriginal story line, poor graphics and unnecessary ending. Sorry, definitely didn't move me.
reply

Truly accomplished CGI. To everyone wishing the dialogue was translated for them, you're not missing anything. lol
reply

There's a biohazard and I am continually saying Put your helmet on. Does she want to get infected by that thing
