Mass effect andromeda: 10 things to know when starting a new game

Mass Effect Andromeda (PC, PS4, Xbox One) has a surprising amount of depth despite its many problems. Here are some things you should know as a newcomer Gromgi: 1. This isn-t Mass Effect
2. The engine is terrible for the game
3. Character creation is as ugly as they come
4. Two new aliens and a new geth species you will encounter on every single world with copy pasted caves
5. Only a few active powers so don-t get your expectations up for funnier gameplay. More empty collection tasks if you don-t get enough of that from MMOs.
6. Write down notes of the story as you go along as you won-t remember it a week after game completion
7. You-ll spend more time driving around on open worlds than any of the actual content
8. Enemies will spawn at the same place out of thin air on your way forward and back.
9. They took out the -kick-ass space novel-esque- stories ala ME2 and replaced it with nothing memorable
10. Play original trilogy instead

Andromeda is rough around the edges sure, but it is incredibly immersive. And I am appreciating the value system in that I-m constantly getting rewarded. There is an incentive to explore. My only complaint is the combat/skill tree system. You would think after more than a decade, there would have been changes. To me, it feels quite generic. And to be able to change between classes takes away from -sticking with your choice- and make a unique build.
I respect the game-s criticism, and some of it is deserved. That said, hardcore fans will remember that ME1 wasn-t without its faults either. And it aged incredibly well. 4 years later, I can say the same for Andromeda. And if the sequel makes significant improvements, people will only remember the things that Andromeda did well.

Awful advice on AVP, the time-based bonuses suck because they're low and rely on in-game time. Always get reconnaissance first. After that you can decide if you want to focus on more consumable slots/XP or the Trade/Commerce bonuses for better salvage profits and once you're on a role the innovation perk is great (but you can hold off until you really get into research/development and have lots of materials). Honestly I'm 55 hours in and I think the resource perks are just crap until you've exhausted every planet/quest and still need research points-but what you get in-game is more than enough unless you're hell-bent on unlocking every blueprint.

Just got this game on a steam sale. Like many others I listened to all the hate and avoided it. I-m playing it now in 2021 and I gotta tell you this game is a lot of fun. The combat is so much more satisfying and tight than the previous games
The facial animations are kind of weird my character sometimes makes these whacky -the sims- game level of over-animated. Also I did a really crude/fast custom character and he look like a hairy ballsack from some angles - but I heard you can still customize them any time so I-ll go and fix him once it REALLY bothers me

I picked this up last year, and I honestly don-t get the hate....I think it-s easily 2nd favourite mass effect game. It was much more space exploration & colonisation, and felt like the story fits the gameplay.
There-s urgency....but not enough that doing side quests feels silly. I felt mass effect 3 had such an urgent mission, that deviation from it just felt nonsensical.
Where as this is a scouting mission! Your looking for habitable planets, and therefore diplomacy and exploration make way more sense. I still think it-s an 8/10

Good lord. I played the previous 3. Yesterday I started Andromeda, and was like -oh, right, these games are HUGE, I should probably watch a guide on begginer tips so I dont miss anything important-. Proceeds to watch video of -how huge the game is-. And bruh... I just watched it and I already forgot half of it and I felt everything was truly important xD! I'd better take things slow and explore everything. Thanks for all the tips.

This was the first Mass Effect game I played and honestly my Fav, the original trilogy granted does have a stronger story and very interesting characters but the overall game play and the ability to change your player style with the profiles in Andromeda is just so much better- Shame this game came out before it was finished and got such a bad rep, wanted that next game so much!!

First thing at the intro pretty much all characters are female which isn't a problem but I thought it was halirious like especially when I heard the female krogan talk for the first time I laughed for a good minute especially they didn't even bother to make them in any way look like the males of there species just shorter body types still looked exactly the same

I hate this game with a passion.. they butchered my son, ruder feels like a background NPC no emotions and plus all choices are literally the same just different wording , I want to be renegade but can't because they ruined it.. ridiculous
