How artificial grinding is changing games
video description
A good grind is one that is carefully built to for players to have a good time. A grade A example of this is monster hunter. Any monster hunter. Throughout the whole game you are the one picking what you want to grind. You have many monsters to fight and can go about doing so whenever. They're capable of being taken down with a lot of struggle but then you do it a bit more because it takes more than one kill to make the monster's stuff. You improve each time as a player, you get a better idea of where to be and what to do with your weapon of choice to kill the monster faster. You can play with friends to go faster and use a bunch of different strategies and tools. The gameplay allows a variety of approaches as well as a high ceiling of accomplishment so that spending more time means being more familiar with a monster and killing it faster. The game has dozens of large monsters who all function differently and then have subspecies and difficult quests where the monsters have new moves but also cooler weapons. It becomes a game where you can easily spend hundreds of hours collecting stuff solo or with friends and always feeling satisfied.
A shit grind says you can only do this so much a day, at such and such pace where you have no influence over what you get, no ability to improve and go faster, and you have to sit through it with nothing else to do, constantly reminded that you've paid $60 for this privileged and there's no other way to more meaningfully engage the game. Or you can pay up and get away from the waiting room noooooooow. Some people will endure, some won't because frankly it's a shit grind that does nothing to engage the player with active decision making or improving at the game, even before you consider the loot boxes.
See the difference?

i wouldnt say grinding is bad unless its done properly, some of the old games on ps1 or ps2 or somewhere in that era is when grinding is actually feels rewarding unlike today's game when they give u a choice -grind 10 hour- or -pay us $3.99-. i can understand for some people that just dont have the time to grind that much hour and prefer to just pay their way to get the reward instantly, i wouldnt say that this is greedy but more like providing their customer a shortcut which is totally fine but whats make grinding is bad today is that they would add unnecessary amount of time u need to grind that item so that us customer would feel exhausted and finally would leave us no choice but to pay them some cash. its that publisher/dev no longer value the product but more to $$$$$.
A: hey make that 30 hour longer
B: but this only takes 10 hour
A: decrease the exp point, money, etc. to the point where it should take 30 hour to grind and also make in-game purchase for $3.99 wait no $6.99. u know what? make it 40 hour that should make dem sheep give us their money instead of grinding oh and also increase that shiny dollar price to $8.99
i dont know if u guys get what im trying to say but what i want to say is that they will look for every opportunity for them to make money with that game instead of making the game much more fun with quality content.
good balance grinding with rewarding result and they sell it at good reasonably price point (in case im that person that dont have much time) im good witht that

GTA Online.
The economy inflates with each update, resulting in previous money making methods becoming obsolete. Ex: Apartment heists, races, contact missions, adversary modes, and passive/active businesses. Heists are the only way to make the most money in the shortest time and are more engaging, but the missions are so linear and grinding them gets annoying. Then a large part of your cut goes to a damn npc (WHY?) and you lose money if you get shot for whatever reason. Let-s not forget you have to share a cut with other people too. There-s only ONE heist you can solo, from start to finish. Then the things you can buy with the money is so shallow. I mean it doesn-t nothing for your gameplay. I mean if you want the new cars then that valid, but in free roam you couldn-t enjoy it cuz you-ll get blasted by greifers.

Summoners War... After nearly a year of play (grind). I'm still an early/midgame PvE player.
I have little to no understanding of late game or PvP play due simply to lack of practice...
Ask a question... answer is go grind!
Why do I enjoy the game? If you play and understand just how grindy it is. You feel prog daily... and their events feel rewarding in comparison to how many $s you'd have spent otherwise.

I believe the problem with the new generation system AKA Xbox One PS4. Is that they just don't want to give you a story anymore they want you to spend a lot of time doing tedious stuff just to progress a little bit and get a little bit more story. For $60 I want a complete game. I get paying extra for new adventures. But I am not going to pay for microtransactions just for the privilege to have the game on easy mode.

I actually think Splatoon got the grind mostly right. At first I started with matches with almost everyone having, more-or-less, the same weapon. After only a few rounds, not only have I gotten the hang of the game, but I accumulated enough in-game currency to try and buy new weapons. You gather resources at such a meaningful rate that it actually kind of sucks that the shop and lobby are so far separated.

When I quit playing World of Warcraft years ago, there were people who told me that they could never quit because of the time they invested.
My counterpoint to that is that my time is a precious resource, so I should be spending it having fun; regardless of the game because I'm not a pro gamer or a streamer whose income relies on gaming. I'm just a dude working a job that likes gaming.

Games without grinding are just boring I like having something to work towards while I play it makes the game feel rewarding and encourages me to go out and unlock knew stuff and it-s onpy fun if this stuff affects gameplay
Exception 1 pay to win ruining game 2 actual gameplay content being locked instead of just upgrades

What is too much grind and what is fun and what isn't?
Guess that's probably too individual to truly answer. Some players like grinding the same dungeon again and again for incrementaly better gear.
I quickly start to feel like I just aquired a second job I have to pay money for...
Everyone to his or her own.

The
Destiny 2 is extremely strenuous when it comes to time and repeatedly doing the same missions over and over and over again. Not to say that the game isn-t fun because it is, but after like 30-40 hours the strikes and public events become very bland and I really begin to lose interest in leveling my character.
