What tricks do games use to identify cheaters?

Multiplayer games and their developers manage to catch cheaters all the time, but how exactly are they identifying those who don't play by the rules? Let's talk WhiteHawkUK: Even Balance has banned countless innocent players, burning their entire game collections with no recourse. In fact, they've done it repeatedly. Only when their criminal behaviour has become particularly public have they ever admitted their mistake and reversed erroneous bans. In all other cases their stock response is -tough - you agreed we could do this to you when you played the game, and there's nothing you can do about it because there is no way to prove that you are or are not a cheat-. They even claim to discard any data that could have been used to vindicate you, which also means that they cannot prove their case (but they don't have to). It is a simple philosophy - if the false positives fall below a certain threshold, they're an acceptable sacrifice.
It's appalling, and it should not be forgiven. They're arguably worse than the cheats. Many innocent players have been robbed of substantial money and time.
Actual cheats, meanwhile, simply start a new subscription and go straight back to what they were doing. They don't care when their accounts are burned.
It's little wonder that no publisher will risk using PunkBuster any more.

What the hell are you talking about? .dll are as easy to hack and modify as executable files. In fact, there's actually virtually no difference between the two, both are binary COFF files and the only difference is that a .dll is marked as such in the Optional Header and they can usually be relocated. Both have entry points, with a dll having them for process and thread attaching and detaching and will export functions. The only way to stop a .dll from being modified is by signing it and verifying the signature, but you can do that to exe files too. In fact, I would argue that .dll files are easier to modify because you only have to target maybe one or two specific exports. I've done a LOT of reverse engineering, so please for the love of God, either do your research better, or don't embark on a subject when you don't have the technical knowledge to carry it off.

Watches this video.. Instantly wonders what Rockstar does about cheaters, especially in GTA 5. Seeing as GTA has almost 1+ modder in every single lobby and CONSTANTLY new mods every single day. MANY FOR FREE. and I'm talking about multiplayer, not single player.. And the fact GTA 5 was apparently the most successful game ever but is 200% dominated and controlled by modders.

I have two issues with cheating. One. I was banned on day 2 by ubisoft from playing wildlands when it first released. They couldn't produce an explanation or who banned me.
2. Black desert online. You can easily find the same speed hackers day after day no matter how many times they are reported. Why does this occur?

There was one time I loved the way they hacked gta 4 when playing online. Me and a cousin happened into a hacked lobby, where they made your health go down super slowly! It wad just chaos in the middle of town with all kinds of guns and people slamming each other with vehicles! I enjoyed that very much!

People that Cheat at online games should suffer a long term physical punishment. Like have every bone in both of their hands broken in such a way that they will never be able to use their hands correctly again. AND to further drive the point home do it in full view of the Public.

Why not give an AI the ability to understand real players by letting legit players allow AI to watch them - Then let it detect things that aren't happening as they should, You would build up a massive ability to detect players cheating with AI.

An interesting kind of cheat I have seen people do in competitive scene are removing visual elements combined with low graphical detail just to notice motion quicker. I'm guessing they didn't wanted to be too obvious about cheating.

I have a rule on cheaters on online games. If they arnt screwing over others in any way then yeah they can have their own fun and I won't report. But say they use aimbot or something like so then yeah its quick report.
