Music rhythm games exploded in the US during the mid 2000's...but where did these heavyweight franchises go? Let's take a little dive MiCho: Lack of backwards music support and plastic instruments did imo and the ps2 guitar hero red sg was the best controller followed by the Rockband 2 ps3 controller the win ones were atrocious and don't get me started on the hand held the addition of drums and vocals was such a great thing. The songs they add are just pop songs now which turns me off the -newest- Gen controllers are horrid with connection and latency issues I wanna keep on playing but the controllers just don't let me enjoy it and in all honesty I think dj hero would make a harder comeback considering how many people I hear getting into mixing, mastering and producing music especially edm/electronic music

Rock Band was the first rhythm game I played, and I a lot of playing it.
But then Rock Band and Guitar Hero died because Activision kept releasing more Guitar Hero games every year, month and week and people were getting tired of them.
Every Guitar Hero game is THE EXACT SAME GAME but with more songs and instruments.
Plus in My Opinion: Guitar Hero Ripped off Rock Band with drums and vocals.
But I love both Games and I still play them till this day.
It really pains me to see that both games are dying and gone forever.
There will never be another rock band or guitar hero game.
R.I.P Guitar Hero And Rock Band.

I think part of the problem was the music industry cracking down on music used on videos, so gameplay videos got demonetized. Those videos helped drive the popularity of the genre...
For me, I stopped at RB 3... I didn't get into RB 4 because it didn't support the keyboards which was the peripheral my wife preferred.

Rock band is still extremely active and every Tuesday I'm off still rocking with people who have over 300-400 songs at least!! I have 1k songs and rivals has added some amazing replayability. The best value I've ever had in a video game no doubt!! --

I used to play guitar hero as a teen but my guitar broke and I never bought a new one. Last week I found my old guitar hero game and I found out about clone hero so I ordered a guitar and it comes in today, can't wait to play it again

Guitar Hero was fun but a bit of a niche. Rock Band was great it was more karaoke but with options for introverts.
Saturation is a great point but Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were the reason why no one came back.

I'm here in September 2021 because I just dusted off the Rock Band 4 stuff and having fun with it again. New songs are still being released as DLC, that wouldn't happen if people weren't still playing.
