A new VR headset, a new release date for Metro Exodus, and some other surprises round out a weird week of gaming news Abram: Ever since I got Oculus rift playing non VR games hasn't been exciting. VR offers more. I thought I knew everything about VR before getting one and I thought the screen door talk was overblown. I was shocked by how good VR was at tricking my brain into thinking it was in the game. There is really no way to explain it other than to say, look around your room, It's like that but the game but with with screen door glasses on.
I think Oculus Quest could be big in expanding the audience as a self contained VR console with 6DOF for $399.
Generation 2 of VR is where it really gets crazy and starts to take over. As you have seen from units pushing gen 2 features like eye and hand tracking, the costs are very high still.
Perhaps 2020-2022 for a gen 2 headset within the realm of affordable.
Gen 2 would be hand tracking for productivity, much higher resolution like 8k and foveated rendering so you don't need 2080 ti SLI, eye tracking so that foveated rendering can be done, and a verifocal display so you can focus close and far based on object distance. Verifocal will let you close enough to read text without it going blurry. VR will have a lot of application outside of gaming too. There are many ways to use it to increase productivity thus adding to the economy in a large way.

For those complaining that a steam competitor upsets their investment, libraries, access, workshops etc, please hold on to the fact that 30-35% cut has always been utterly outrageous. Steam has become a monopoly and has shafted indie developers. 10-12% is the maximum any portal should take. Steam also has zero discernment. It will post any old rubbish as long as it is taking its cut. It is long overdue for some tangible competition. Other portals might take a bit if time to reach the same level of convenience but you have to start somewhere.

VR is awesome. VR chat and Wave is not the same without VR. VR chat is motivating a lot of people to upgrade to VR and if you don-t know what I-m talking about go to Vr chat and make some friends. Then ask a real girl, 99.9% of girl avatars are boys IRL, for some phantom touching. Not the same on desktop. Oh and don-t forget the international market. There are a lot of people in different countries getting Vr.

Just got the HTC vive and I honestly love it. It-s such an amazing experience. And with the price dropping to roughly 400-500 it-s honestly like buying a new console and I think it-s worth it.

The Geralt colab is nice but Im mainly waiting on the Iceborn DLC and the G Rank Missions and Armor. Im happy to buy DLC rather than an a full priced -Ultimate- version of the game.
