Some of these character redesigns are the result of greedy studios wanting quick production for franchise profit, and they will hand the artwork to a whole new team because they were paying the original crew too much (they say). I compare that to Insomniac Games, who have kept their iconic Ratchet & Clank characters true to the original from 20 years ago. The only deviations where other developers handled it (PSP games, All4One, Full Frontal Assault) were still true to the character form if not the spirit of the game. I understand that some game designers and artists want to exercise their creativity, and that's good, or games would stagnate; but then, they should develop whole new characters or listen to the players about any redesign.

Lara and Jonah from the Tomb Raider 2013->Rise->Shadow. They changed them both for both sequels to the 2013 reboot, and it's annoying and confusing. Lara looked best in Rise, I admit, but then in SotTR it's like they felt guilty for making her pretty and toned it down. Jonah is even worse. They keep making him ethnically similar to where the game takes place, or some weird crap along those lines.
And to those wanting the OG Lara back...no. That one has totally unrealistic proportions. I don't think Miss Croft underwent barbie doll surgery.

I hate when they change videogame character that were originally cool. Like if a character is originally black, hero personality and a funny dude and they change his personality for no reason and his race, then it doesn't feel like it's a good game.
Remember Morrison from the devil may cry anime? He was white, not black. They could of just added black characters like the one in devil may cry 2 and 4.

I disagree with Dante. I kinda hated that remake, but not so long ago I gave it a try and it was an awesome game. And maybe Dante is different but it's still a good character to me
The redesigns I hate though is most of the Resident evil redesigns starting with revelations

You forgot that god awful Ugandan knuckles freak-a-doo.... You know the one, not the meathead knuckles but the other one that looks like he has a syndrome or he went through a windshield at 90+ or just something very unsavory happened to him.

Spyro looks like a pug in spyro fancy dress costume lol maybe they used a jack tussle or somet to motion capture and in the new could only get a pug I dunno I agree just awful just no na not spyro

What about that time they turned the main character of -Condemned: Criminal Origins-, Ethan Thomas, from some hispanic looking chubby into a rundown, washed out, white dude with a drinking problem?

Did they end up changing Tiny back to a Tasmanian tiger?! He was my favorite boss and the best heavy character in CTR. To think they butchered his character so bad makes me sad.

I prefer redesigned Spencer in Bionic Commando. At least he didn't look like Duke's red head, color swap, embarassing brother. That redesign wasn't as bad as the plot twist there.
