The Most UNDERRATED Post Apocalyptic Open World Game Ever PrysmT. Kitsune: regarding the 'never explains how the world ended' thing this game, if you REALLY 100 percent it actualy 'does' explain the basics of how this world ended, it was a combination of biological and ecological upheaval, first a pluage hit that infected most livestock animals and rendered them inedible cuting the worlds food stock in half and pushing civilization to a straining point as was, then the ice caps melted. for a bit the world was flooded then however something happened, the water began to drain away, little by little, till the surface had 'no' water on it, oh there still is water, it can be colected from the air and its implied that certain locations have access ot underground cashes of it, but water on this earths surface. gonezo. the rest was just humanity coming apart at the seems as it tore itself apart fighting over the remaining food, water, and oil/gas

The mad max franchise and this game never states exactly how far in the future after an apocalypse it's set but it's hinted in this game and other movies by either being told or understanding that some of these deserts were formerly oceans, humans are tribal and scattered sparsely knowledge isn't shared, there is no point for social interactions or leisure time. Language itself has been appropriated by necessity. This game is functionally and mechanically fit to purpose it has a identity and a world you can actually feel like a participant in and for that reason alone it's a gorgeous and unique representation of this genre amongst it's peers. It simply was buried in a time of bigger hyped franchises. If you haven't played it, I recommend you get on it, as a basis for comparison it's astounding.

You know, it's weird. As I'm watching your video, I'm like, I think maybe I remember playing this game. Did I buy it? So I check my Steam library, and yes, I did in fact buy it. LOL Wracking my brain, I guess I played it through once? I have 65 hours into it. (Which for me isn't much, especially as I get distracted and do things like cook dinner with the games still running) I have literally half of the achievements. Usually I'm an OCD completionist. So that's weird? I can't even remember if I liked the game. Or if I definitely beat it. Or. anything about it. So at the least you have me redownloading and installing it. Not sure when I'll actually get to it. But. I'm curious. I wonder what happened that I seem to have written it off.

It is the last game I ever got that was fully completed and working from day one without it needing massive game patches to fix any issues with the game on release.
I have played through it eight times and will do so again soon after I finish RDR2 for the third time now and it will not be long before I start as Arthur only has a couple missions to go.
Many of today's games are incomplete messes with huge bugs and glitches constantly needing bug fixes, game patches, and updates as they are always releasing unfinished broken disasters.
Some games are even missing promised game modes which take weeks or months for them to be finally available to play if at all as they just eventually give up on trying to get them working.

Love this game! The car combat is sooo satisfying and just never gets old. And then the hand-to-hand fighting was better than the arkham games in my opinion. Felt more difficult and less button bashy than the arkham games. And the special moves and knife kills etc.
The world is awesome too. Like when you first notice the gastown in the distance, and you know that's where your gonna end up, but its got this shimmering postapocalyptic fire castle vibe to it.
And when you realise all the rocky bits are actually coral. and you're actually not driving on just a desert. your driving around the seabed which is a desert, and that makes you appreciate the thought that went into the world.

I'm so happy you guys continue to give this game the love and recognition it deserves. When i first played this back in 2015, it became one of my all time favorite games, which is crazy with all the amazing games out there. It has that xbox 360/PS3 feel but its got the PS4/X One feel.
The action is great, the map i setup great for whipping through with your car or to explore on foot, the upgrade system for Max and his car is awesome. I could go on and on. Its just an amazing game that got hate because people couldn't take the time to complete the beginning area to have the main map open up.
That really was the biggest reason this game got so much hate and bad reviews.

Totally agree. I ve never been a big fan of Mad Max (but I ve obviously seen the original movies, but I love this game. I download all of the free games on PSN, and this one was free a few years ago. Maybe a year later, I was extremely bored one night, and decided to try it. It was the only game I played for about a month. I loved it. I ve been thinking about going back to it to get the platinum trophy for it, and after watching this video and being reminded about how great it is, I might start a new play through this weekend.

The storms are insane there 2 types sand an deadly as heck lightning in it you basically cant hide. one insane thing if you got the opus maxed an i mean MAXed. you can out run the storms.
The slow mo fights are some of the most satisfying an are really difficult to pull off once you get max into Feral mode he is unstoppable. well till one hit
After completing it twice there are still Arc angel cars i need an one location i can not locate 1 piece of scrap.

Dangit Falcon. I bought this game a couple years ago because I kept hearing how cool it is. It is still sitting on my shelf in cellophane because it just keeps getting bumped down the 'Things I'm playing next' list but I have always wanted to play it. Now you got me all hyped to fire it up but Hogwarts Legacy comes out in 5 days. Then Atomic Heart a couple weeks after that. It's gonna be at least a month before I will get a chance!

I am so glad you are giving it the recognition it deserved! I 100 percented it on both playstation and pc and found it to be close to perfect both times. The feel is just so good, all esthetical and level design, physics, and sound engineering were hugely immersive to me. Challenges, achievements, and upgrade systems were alligned so good with story progression as well. I was sad nobody ever really talked about it!

I am so happy that I opted to try this instead of Metal Gear 5 when I walked into GameStop that afternoon. I loved both games but if I had played Metal Gear first I likely would have forgotten about Mad Max and moved on to one of the other great games that came out that year. I have always listened to my gut in situations like this and once again I m glad I did, absolute unit of a game.

I got about 80%+ thru the game and really enjoyed it. But like many open world games because of my ocd which demanded upgrading each zones base to max, lowering threat levels to 0, etc etc I burned out. However it was and is an awesome experience, and I m glad I listened to others and gave it a shot. It also helped it was a PS+ game so it was free and maybe still is on the service.

The vehicle combat is second to none. The map and the hand to hand combat (akin to rock parry scissors like AC4) is visceral and solid but repetitive. I loved this game and the villains are brilliant but I wish there were more rare bigger roaming bosses in the scale of the convoy runs. They were probably my favorite part.

Once again, Mad Max gets overrated, imo. The story was boring af, the open world was empty, and most importantly, despite the combat clearly INTENTIONALLY feeling like a heavier, sluggish Arkham, it felt too sluggish to be fun, imo. (Actually, story is my most important, but if your story AND your main gameplay suck? Oof)

Currently replaying this actually, and I agree that it's overlooked. Combat is a bit clunky, trying to be like Arkham and failing. Since WB took the servers down you have to work harder to earn scrap for those late game upgrades and the 2 achievements for hording said scrap. It's a solid 7/10 and definitely worth a look.
