Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis has you fly an A-10 for literal seconds before it gets shot down and the real mission starts. The thing is, despite having no previous experience with flying controls in this game, it seems you were actually supposed to do an attack run in that short moment as well lol.
I think tank levels deserve their own video by the way. They're like water levels, except opposite -- like power trips that fizzle out way too soon. MoH's Tiger capture is an example, and if I recall correctly, one of its expansions featured a desert tank fight. Operation Flashpoint also features one where you command a gaggle of Abrams tanks. Then there's the hovertank bit of Quake 4. Call of Duty's got one or several.

What Remains of Edith Finch switches up gameplay very often, because you are playing short vignettes attached to their respective characters. Also, It Takes Two (made by the creators of A Way Out) does this every few hours, but the segment I remember the most is where one player pilots a tiny biplane while the other has a fighting game style brawl with a squirrel general on top of it. And it lasts for like two minutes.

i had a funny gameplay idea for the number 9 entry. imagine if when your hiding in a cabin instead of shooting you had to capture the best footage. it would be better if i could show what i'm talking about. in that mission your team would hide under desks and stuff and my thought is what if the goal was to capture the best footage while also having a gun.

at first, I thought the title meant how games add stuff that waste time to add gameplay. Like all the animations in Starfield you have to sit through. Taking off in your ship, landing, sitting or getting up from chairs, slow door animations before fading to a load screen. probably 10% of my gameplay is just repeat cut scenes (unverified.

Japan has one of the strictest gun laws in the world. It's hard and expensive to get illegal guns, plus it attracts a huge amount of police attention so the Yakuza rarely use them. They mostly get old model pistols like the ones in the game. Plus recent events caused the biggest gang to declare gun use taboo.

For Number 9 (Call Of Duty: Black Ops, I remember that mission being the demo mission I played before getting the game. I'd be curious to know if they put that little gameplay mechanic in because they knew it would be the demo mission and possibly could sway people into buying the game!

Whenever I think of short sequences and all that. I think of the plethora of sections where you change teams/characters in JRPGs.
The forced change near the end of Xenosaga III, where you have to fight AGAINST Shion as Allen/etc. will be one of the most powerful ones.

omg the FF7 dance segment is right up there on my list of all time cringy worthy moments in gaming. Right up there with FFX's laughing scene and DMC5's Michael Jackson dance scene. Also, what made this a bit worse were the QTEs and they were hard to see with everything going on.

If you're gonna talk about minor gameplay features that don't make much sense, Yakuza would be an entire list.
And it's not just Yakuza, just grab any JRPG and it'll just be full of mechanics or side stuff that you don't even do more than a couple mins

RDR2, when going to Guarma I know its not a few seconds but there isnt much going on when you get there, not much to exploring either. Same with the prison mission to get John back. I wish there was more to explore at them two locations.

No mention of the running gag between developpers always trying to sneak a fishing minigame in every game?
I find it hilarious, it's both completely pointless and random since pretty much any game can have it for no reason

Developers: No one likes swapping characters. We bought the game to play a particular character. Do not force us to play a completely different character with radically different control schemes. It isn't fun.

I'm glad you made this list. I thought I was the only one who had this feeling. I definitely have played games where they introduce something awesome and it's only that one section (reflects on The Order)

There were 3 ship sections in Guardians of the Galaxy, no? First one where you had to escape, second this dogfight and final one being infiltrate (by sneaking or fighting) the last level at the beginning.

When it's just a voice only video, falcon has the better voice. But when you can actually see Jake on screen, I think he is better. Something about actually seeing him makes the videos a lot better.

I played the original black ops on ps3 a few weeks ago for the first time and I knew I soon as I heard the description of this video that the black bird mission was going to be on it

Im sure that nightmare bit in MGS is a very very early prototype of MGSR but they weren't getting the go ahead! So reskinned it and put in that game for s# and giggles imo

3: 43 that s why I stopped playing it. So uncomfortable and weird never seen something so strange and unsettling in a video game than that part of FF7. Genuinely unnecessary.
