Top 15 Best Open World Games of 2023 When cyberpunk came out people were overreacting and being pick me as hell. Now it s starfield.
You can tell when people didn t actually play the game and decide to shit on it. Because there are real criticisms of the game but no one is talking about them, only saying it s bad. BGS has a feel to their games that one should expect going into them, and if you don t like it that s a preference issue. The game is good, I m sorry to inform the naysayers but you have been influenced by haters.

Dumb suits at Ubisoft thought horizon mek mone, me dumb monke, make gaym lik3 h0riZon. They completely butchered any potential the crew series had. The one and only thing that series had going for it over other racing games was the huge size of the map. They had a decade head start on any other company on making the largest, most detailed racing game map in the world. All they had to do was release a crew game every couple of years with update physics some new courses to race through and updated iterative updates to their current map. Technology is reaching a point where a map of that size is completely feasible. Instead what did they do? Created a crappy forza horizon clone which everyone is starting to burn out from considering their are now 5 horizon games. The Physics are worse, the map is worse the car selection is worse. It can't compete in any way to horizon and now it's thrown away its one unique selling point as well.

Honestly moterfest is extremely repeating because they made the map waaaaaay to cramped and most of the game has races arround identical locations way to many times then it's own good and then the different style races have really annoying rules and there are basicly no races at all that allow full vehicle choice. You're simply required to play races with locked in vehicles and the only time it gives a slightly different option through the summit events.
Honestly said looking at the list it's like not that great in the slightest and feels like there weren't any good open world games.

TotK's fine in an emulator, but Nintendo stuck to their guns on the whole weapons-last-half-a-fight angle, so once again, you'll need to patch in a hack to disable that if you want to actually enjoy the game to its fullest potential. Well, that and overlay RTX. And play it in 4K. You know. modern stuff.
I enjoyed _Like a Dragon Gaiden_ more than most of this list and while it's not precisely open world, neither is Diablo IV.

I was excited to try Atomic Heart but I have to totally disagree with the combat. Especially with melee, I thought it felt numb, poorly timed, and I just couldn't get over that something felt off. I gave it like 3 solid sittings before I just deleted it. A shame because I was digging the world and concept. Maybe I should have given it more time but I felt the combat was off at its core and doubted it'd get better

Spiderman, Starfield and Avatar. Lmao
Spiderman and Avatar are relatively pretty to look at but are boring as hell to play. Writing wise it's the same political messaging we've seen for half a decade now.
Starfield is. Honestly i don't even know how or why this would make it into a list of 'good' games. It functions, mostly, i guess? About the best thing i can say about that game.

Loving avatar so far. It's a little weird sometimes when your spotted in a base or drill site etc. The alarm never seems to go off lol even if you leave for a while and come back. It's also pretty hard if your spotted( early game) I wonder why they didn't add more stealth abilities/stuff to the game since your rewarded for being stealthy.

atomic heart was good but the open world is the worst i ve ever seen in my life, there is not much to explore but when u try to u are constantly spammed with mobs that respawn instantly. the game should definitely not be in this list considering it s about open worlds. esthetics and atmosphere were awesome on the other hand, music too

Things have started turning a corner and companies have reigned it back in a bit after Ubisoft made some serious mistakes with open world games, streching them to breaking point and we got the Boredom Simulator (tm) that was FarCry6! Things are looking positive again in the open world space.

I'm so irritated with Ubisoft about so many things, mostly Skull and Bones lol. But wow. Avatar was really good. I also am not a fan of the movies, I don't even think I have seen them. Exploring, hunting, and gathering in that game just felt really fulfilling. Even if it is a Farcry copy paste.

I'd put Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores on this list, since DLC is allowed. For me, it's the best of the year. I'm also fully enjoying Starfield, in a totally different way - but HFW: Burning Shores is far and away my favorite game of 2023, and among my top 5 games of all time.

Am I the only one here who really enjoyed Starfield? The world you inhabit is very detailed and charming and all of the faction quests are beyond solid. The open world is absolutely massive. Even though the uninhabited planets are pretty empty, you can just ignore them.
reply

Saying Dead Island nails it or is even good should actually be a crime against humanity. Boring slop with insufferably cringe writing/dialogue, I don't know how anyone enjoyed that game. Nothing that goes through development hell ever comes out good. Same with Atomic Heart

As far as open worlds are concerned, I wish devs start getting rid of map icons and have a unique design of map instead. The map in Alan Wake 2 was very innovative.
Also they should stop giving us hundreds of copy paste side content like they do in Spiderman.

As someone who's second favorite game of all time is Fallout 3, Starfield was exactly what I expected, and I'm totally fine with it. The crazy thing to me is that they built it to replay over and over with technical the same character

Does anyone else not give Playstation games ported to PC a chance? I'm not a PC master race person by any means by the way. I just feel like that ship has sailed. Plus, the game tends to be spoiled by the time it hits steam.
reply

the list might aswell be reversed, how is starfield D4 and AC MIrage - 3 games that got terrible ratings - higher than cyberpunk or ff16, i had to doublecheck if i accidently watched an IGN list, extremely rare Gameranx L

i wouldn't've say bethesda games are outdated, its just in my opinion starfield was just really bad, skyrim and the fallouts are still decent to play to date but starfield for me was just really dull and boring.

Im currently playing Dead Island 2 second run and changed my character, let me tell you it's a refresher to see it through another characters eyes, Im having fun! Im exploring more! and genuinely enjoying the DLC!
