Yeah, Forspoken fell flat and didn't end up anything like that initial tease.
But, I think Square-Enix deserves some credit for at least trying something new. Everyone always complains about the overwhelming amount of sequels, remakes and reboots and wonders why no one is doing more original stuff. I think Forspoken makes a pretty good argument. It was a different IP with some new ideas and it failed. Hard. Costing SE a lot of money.
I'm not saying the game should have been a bigger hit. Between the cringe dialogue, sparse open world, and uninteresting gameplay, it's not a very fulfilling experience. All I am saying is that I applaud SE for trying something new.

This is why I generally don't listen to developer promises anymore. Better to judge a game once it's playable instead of getting caught up on the hype train and letting disapointment over unfufilled promises drag your experience down. Because that can downgrade a fun experience to a bad one since you'd be comparing it to a game that was promised, but never was. Well that or I might just have low standards for what's a fun experience.

Cyberpunk 2077 should have been on this list. Fallout 76. Overwatch 2. Anthem. Spore. SimCity (2013. Cities Skyline 2. Godus. Daikatana. Aliens Colonial Marines. Saints Row. Dying Light 2. Kerbal Space Program 2. Diablo 4. Might N. 9. Red Fall. Final Fantasy 14.
Some of these did get better, but they all fit this topic. I agree with all the games listed here as well.

Bethesda really wanted people to fill in the gaps for them(with modding) on starfield and people just. didn't. Don't blame them honestly, they tried to make something far too large and ambitious. There are still no significant mods for it since I checked recently, only just some improvements and some star wars stuff lol. They are dropping their mod support soon I think, so maybe that will change. We shall see.

While I like Halo Infinite the reason why people have issues with it is that it did the same thing Halo Wars did which was choose to not do a linear story like other games in the franchise which confused it's player base & ultimately pushed them away from the game. Also, Starfield 100% deserves to be on this list because it promised us basically GTA in space & what we got was a shadow of what could've been.

Dying Light 2 should have been in this list. The game's choice-based dialogue was supposed to affect the environment and everything around it, and there were supposed to be at least four possible ally factions, but in the end, there were only two. Moreover, the other faction didn't get upset with you even if you played in favor of the rival faction or slaughtered the rival faction's outpost.

I think the biggest disappointment with halo infinite is it just felt outdated. I reeeeaaaally loved the gameplay and story, but it took forever to boot, the UI was super overcrowded and confusing, the customization felt super limiting, and the graphics were just lackluster for how much it'd bog down a really good PC. The movement just felt outdated too, good and solid, but outdated.

No mans sky should be number one. They made a major comback and the game is GORGEOUS NOW. But they released a new solo mode recently as a expedition saying for the first time you can be alone with nobody around at all. for the first time That was the first 2-3 years of the games launch. Yeah i could see my friends as useless floating orbs but it truly felt empty the first few year's.

Two worlds. My 12 year old brain was tricked into thinking that they basically copy and pasted Oblivion and then added more to it. I had no knowledge of copyright and all that, i was just excited to play what i was expecting to be Oblivion 2. I probably put about 20 min into the game. I wonder if the game was actually good but i just didn't give it a chance because it wasn't oblivion.

How do we have a list of overpromised and underdelievered without talking about what is formerly THE MOST WISHLISTED GAME ON STEAM. I'm talking of course about The Day Before. You simply cannot have this list without that game because no game has ever even come close in that metric. The most wishlisted game on steam shut down in just 45 days. Think about that.

Dying light 2. The devs did not deliver what was promised at all. The story was supposed to be this really ambitious thing with so many endings and changes to the world around you, but it turned out to be this generic half assed story with 3 endings and they all were just so lackluster. There was just so much promised that was underdelivered

Man, advent rising deserved a sequel. I loved it. From what I remember, it had a progression system where whatever you were doing is what leveled up and improved. Use a lot of telekinesis, than your telekinesis grow stronger with more abilities. Used guns a lot, you got faster at reloading, had less recoil, better aim, did more damage.

With Starfield, I did enjoy the game. It didnt bother me that you could land on all the planets. My issue was, they didnt focus on the main cities enough. Like Atlantis was a city and then outside the city was empty. They should have been full game maps with loads of areas, buildings and stuff to explore and collect loot.

Wow majority of these are Microsoft cronies and Electronic Arts but then Square-Enix swoops in at Number 1 _ Expand this list I'm sure Sony, Nintendo, Ubisoft and other big name game companies also has Promises that where spectacularly unfulfilled on the final product for example that WatchDogs downgraded graphics Etc.

Right before Forspoken came out, I was so close to pre-ordering it. I asked a guy at games top if there was any pre-order bonus. He looked it up and told me no. So I decided to wait until it came out. Best last minute decision I made since I could buy it for 20 dollars only a month th later.

My GF worked in electronics at target back when Fable was going to launch. She mentioned I was into RPG’s and he swore it was the most advanced, head turning game ever developed. He made it sounded like it was going to change games forever. Sooo much hype from that guy. I never bought it.

Starfield was not even worth buying (so i didn't. Fallout 4 base building ruined Fallout for me. A game series about exploration and dialog in a dangerous wasteleand. Not a settlement sim.
Back when Fable came out, I heard very little besides word of mouth. It was great.

OMG BRINK! I never thought yall would talk about this game. I remember some dude at GameStop hyping that game up and convinced me to pre-order. I played for 2-3 months and backed out. Loved the movement and character design and that was about it. I wasted 50-60 bucks lol.

Feel like Pokemon Scarlett and Violet should be on this list too. The trailers hyped up this open world and better graphics with fur and scales visible on the pokemon then it released as a buggy mess with an empty world, no level scaling. It was a huge disappointment.

I was only ever hyped about Halo Infinite when they were promising open world split screen co-op Halo, something new amd fun sounding.
I played through once and was not interested in the multi-player modes, so it was very not worth my money which I would like back.
